How long is basic training?
Do you have to eat only 3 meals a day or can you store/buy your own food?

Your main problem is going to be food.
Canned Tuna
Canned Mackrel
Canned Chicken if you can hack that shit
Whey Powder
Casien Powder
apart from that, get friendly with the kitchen staff.

You primary focus here is to supply your body with adequate calories to prevent catabolism. Eat at EVERY chance. Stick with dense carbs and slow digesting proteins. Try and incorporate some kind of resistance training often though keep it short and to the point. Assuming your diet will be hard to supply adequate nourishment, you want to avoid over training by long workouts. Stock up on items such as described above by baseline and include some sweet potatoes, prunes, oatmeal (mix with shake), etc...
Good luck with both training and maintaining.

BCAAs and Vitamin C will help as well
I would suggest getting a big tub of instantized BCAA powder(it tastes disgusting so no one else will use any), and making a drink to sip on(add fruit juice and flavoring to mask the taste of the BCAAs) throughout the day, i would say 30g of BCAAs sipped during the day along with other food sources should help greatly
Vitamin C has been shown to significantly lower cortisol, which will increase due to stress(AKA basic training), 1-2g taken in the morning and PWO or after training will reduce any effects cortisol would have on muscle catabolism

Um, no, if you know what (serious) boot camp is like, there is no chance in hell you're going to supply your body with adequate calories from proper nutrition.
He is not in yet, therefore he will go through basic training. You're talking like this kid is going to have a supermarket with him, and his drill sergeants are gonna let them just go off get some good high quality bodybuilding foods.
Nope.
It's sit down, shut up, eat your ****ing food. The food sucks, you have 3-4 minutes to eat it. There is no quality to it. You do not store food, you do not have a choice of what food you eat. You train all day long.
There is NO way of 'bodybuilding' or living the lifestyle in military basic training.

LOL,don't waste your time bringing anything. Like the Marine said, you won't get to keep anything but the clothes on your back, and that wont last long either. I was Army at Fort Benning, and I assure you it was not chill at all.
Now A.I.T. is a different story. You can eat more there, and you will have weekends free for the most part. Good Luck. HOOAH!!

---You cannot bring extra food
---You eat three times a day, when they tell you to
---Your sleep gets interrupted every night for drills or guard duty
---You do excessive cardio
