looking for advice for a 46 year old beginning
It's that time of year when I start to think of all the things I want to accomplish in life. I have lost 70 pounds in the last 6 months or so. No workout, no running, no exercise to speak of just eating every 3 hours, mostly bananas, chicken breast, rice, and healthy snack bars. I eat when i am hungry and I do not eat till i feel "full". I eat till I am no longer hungry. I went from sales to being an over night stocker at a major department store and I am positive that I am stronger/more fit throwing boxes 8 hours a night. Also, I drink pretty much bottled water and coffee. No sodas! So now I am down from a fat 248 to a pretty lean 179.
I am very interested in gaining muscle mass, however at 46, I wonder about my natural testosterone levels . I found a gym that is subsided by the city that I can join for $10 per year! Yes, per year. I can run the one mile to the gym, workout, then run maybe 3 miles home.
I have read tons of web sites, blogs, and forums regarding steroids . I am concerned about the obvious issues and the fact that I haven't even been inside a gym in several years. The "cycle" I am considering is 12 weeks of 200mgs of Testosterone (Cypionate ) with 10mgs of dianabol (first 4 weeks). This is half the amount recommended so I will hopefully avoid the side effects. The dianabol is an option, but is supposed to help with the man boobs and other side effects.
My question is for advice from those who have cycled and are over 40. Any and all advice is very welcome.
thanks

i am not 40 but i would advise you NOT to cycle until youve put alot more time lifting. you will probly gain 10-15lbs of muscle if you workout hard and consistatly, natuarlly. in say 8month to a year. seriously. you said you dont work out now rite?
unless you doc is putting you hrt?

i am 40 and just finished my first cycle, the first thing i would recommend is you get a full panel of blood work done (lipids and hormone) to make sure everything is in good standing. secondly i understand your concern about sides but a lower % of body fat will keep them minimal. third point is to make sure you have been working out long enough to build a solid base and have established strong connective tissue and tendons, the last thing you want on cycle is an injury.also keep in mind that a strong consistant diet is needed in order to have a succesful cycle learning how and when to eat is the single most important part od building a strong fit body. i recommend you spend some time reading in the diet section to see where your diet stands, we all think we eat right until we learn a bit about nutrition. i like the idea of you looking into only testosterone as a cycle, im not keen on d-bol and have no interest in running it just my 2 cents however i think 200mgs per week is too low. start by reading all the stickies (pct, test beginner cycle, how to diet and so on) there is also a over 40 forum you might want to check out. if there is anything i left out others will be along to chime in.
welcome to the board and im sure you will find it very informative.

thanks, great insight. i am going to take your and others advice an focus on strong nutritional diet and weight lifting work outs. i have been reading the diet section here and putting together a written menu to follow. i typically eat a protein a starch and fruit 4 to 6 times per day. i think i need to increase the amounts from about 350 calories per to maybe 550 or 600. after eating small amounts for the last 6 months the increase seems like a ton of food. its just an adjustment though and combining the weight lifting will eat the calories.
thanks again

Welcome!
Great advice from MBMETC above.
You may find that your testosterone levels are low when you have your blood work done. If so, you might want to do some reading in the Hormone Replacement Therapy, Longevity, Wellness, Anti-Aging, Alternative Medicine thread found here: http://forums.steroid.com/forumdispl...ative-Medicine.
I am 42 and just started TRT (Testosterone Replacement Therapy). It has been quite the experience.

I agree with what has been posted spend some time and build a base, I am 55 and spent 3 years walking working up to running and for the last year I lifted wieghts on a regular basis also. Doing this allowed me to build up my body and connective tissues as said, I am not rich and have no insurance and judging by your job I would assume you are in about the same boat, the reason I mention this is for a lot of guys a rolled bicep or other serious injury may be a real pain in the ass, they have to have mom or the wife feed them and nurse them back to health and lose all their sick leave. For me it would mean I was unable to work and pay my bills so I would be on the street and be looking at a hell of a hospital bill afterward since I am without insurance...basically a life changing event... Just food for thought.
