Denying a package
My buddy ordered some stuff to his house but put it under a false name. His room mate answered the door when the mail arived and told the mailman he doesn't know anybody by that name and did not accept the package. What happens to the package now? Is it just returned to the post office until someone picks it up?

Yea i told him thats what he should do. But they just take the denied package back to the post office and hold it there until someone claims it. Am I correct? I know if you deny a package with a return address on it then they just send it back to the sender. Not sure how packages with no return address work though.

It will be returned immediately to the sender. If there is no sender, it will probably be destroyed. That was pretty dumb to not tip off the roommate ahead of time...

I don't see what you disagree with, he said if there was a return address it would be returned to the sender. He did not say how quick it would be destroyed with no return address only that it would be destroyed. Let me ask you how long do you think they should hold onto undeliveable, unreturnable packages before they get rid of them? Or what other action do you feel they would take?
I think the problem here is that he said there is no one by that name at this address, if he had just said that's not me. Then in the states they would have left a piece of paper in the mailbox stating that they attempted delivery of a package for Joe Juicer, and Joe Juicer can either come and pick it up at the post office ( shown on the form) or you can check the box that says reatempt delivery and just leave it in the box and the mailman will redeliver in a few days ( often you can pick a date on the form.

I lost a package once, they held it at the post office for 3 days before sending it back to this "fake" sender address. Of course I arrived right after this was done and the package was lost at this point.

Well, they aren't going to hold onto a package that is undeliverable and unreturnable. They will either open it and find steroids (and turn it over to the police), or they will just throw it away. Either way, you aren't getting that pack.

just go to the post office and tell them you're there to collect any mail/parcel for your address.... they will probably just ask you what your address is and give you any mail or packages for that address it doesn't have to be all complicated.
if it required an id to receive it then having it sent to a false name was pretty retarded and you wouldnt have gotten it from the mailman even
