need advice on steroid use with osteoporosis/crohns/ulcerative colitis

my younger brother (21 years old) has battled most of his life with Ulcerative colitis/crohns disease and as a result of this has struggled to gain/maintain weight. 5'10 and weighs 55kg down from 75kg at the start of the year.

He was prescribed prednisolone (corticosteroids) on many different occasions for his crohns/colitis and as a result of this has also developed osteoporosis.

i was wondering if using an anabolic steroid along with weightlifting (oral or injectable) for weight gain and to help strengthen his bones would be beneficial or if it would have a negative impact on his crohns/colitis or have a reaction with other medication ( azathioprine, mesalazine, fosamax)

    any information is greatly appreciated

Weight bearing exercise should help considerably... talk to your doctor and maybe if the fosamax or whatever doesn't work he could consider it.
