    Raising/lowering cholesterol

I got some blood work done and my doc almost fainted. My good cholesterol was 11. She said 18 was the worst she has seen! My bad cholesterol was elevated, not horribly though. She knows I am on aas, she prescribes me test. At the time I was on test/deca with 3 weeks into my dbol kicker 30mg a day. I dropped the dbol and deca that day and stuck with test 500/week.

I am wondering what does everyone else do to keep their cholesterol In check? I dropped red meat completely, mainly a white fish diet and chicken. I tried to almost eliminate fats and cholesterol for my diet and I have been doing cardio 6 days a week 45 mins + boxing classes. When I bulk I go for 4000cals a day lots of meat =lots of cholesterol. Thanks in advance guys

Fish oil helps a lot...4-6g a day. After several months of that, assuming your overall diet is cholesterol friendly it should make a difference. Cholesterol antioxidant supplements can also help. I'd also make sure your total saturated fat and simple sugar intake is low, this can help. I know a lot of guys think it hurts their gains but maintaining a steady level of cardiovascular activity goes a long way. In fact, it shouldn't hurt your gains, if you're trying to grow it will actually help...the cardio fear many have is without warrant.

How old are you? I ask because when I was younger it didn't matter how much red meat I ate or how much gear I used I could always maintain fairly healthy cholesterol. However, as I got older large amounts of red meat seemed to be hard on me, even if it was lean red meat. Cutting back the red meat seemed to help a good bit.

Last thing, I'd also make sure you're not using more AI's than you have too. Overdoing your AI's can negatively affect your cholesterol significantly when its conjoined with AAS use. Use only what you need.

Dietary cholesterol is proven to be harmless on its own.

What makes cholesterol act as a free-radical is its oxidation by glucose: When cholesterol is oxidized by glucose, it enters and exits the cell membrane multiple times, acting just like a free radical, and thus constituting damage to the cell.

Staying away from red meat on its own won't help you reduce overall cholesterol levels. Red meat has taken an unfair blame for a long time regarding the issue here and field of medical science has only recently discovered that this wasn't the issue here: CHO is largely responsible for metabolic damage for oxidizing cholesterol and turning it into a free radical.

I understand decreasing saturated fat intake but decreasing overall fat intake for the sole purpose of reducing overall cholesterol levels is an oxymoron. Healthy fats are indeed the key for maintaining healthy cholesterol levels which is something your doctor should have already informed you about. Nuts, seeds, EVOO, fish oils are amongst the first and most important dietary compounds you should be interacting with, not vice versa.

Eliminate simple sugars completely, decrease total carb intake and up intake of healthy fats. Stay away from orals and stick to Test only. If your AI choice is wrong and dosing is high, this won't help the situation either. Aromasin at a low dose is the way to go.

Thanks guys. I do eat a handful of almonds daily, natural peanut butter and other nuts etc. I always use olive oil when I cook. At the time I had my blood ran I was on 500test/300 deca 30 dbol . I am taking fish oils to, not sure the mg though, I am going to check it out. I was never really aware of saturated fat intake before, just my hitting my cals and protein. Needless to say I am now! I have been working hard to lower it for the last month. In two weeks I am going to have my blood ran again and I will definitely post my results. I appreciate the responses ill keep ya updated. And I am 32 years old

Do some research on micronized DHEA as well to help lipids.

On a further note, genetic factors seem to be very dominant in patients with chronically high cholesterol levels and doctors are convinced more and more everyday that people who are genetically predisposed to having high overall cholesterol levels are somewhat enforced to taking meds to keep those levels under control since dietary regulation won't help with it.

I underwent a surgery a few days ago and was talking to the general surgeon who has been in the medical field for over 30 years after my surgery who said he has genetically transmitted high cholesterol levels from his father's side of family and has been on meds for several years, neither aerobic exercise nor strict diet has helped with his situation. He thinks he is in a helpless situation for the most part and just calls it a ''bummer.''

I, on the other hand, eat 8-10oz of red meat, 5-6 egg yolks, butter every day, various shell-fish meals throughout the week and don't have high cholesterol. Again, my doctor says one's diet can only determine about 20% of whether he'll have high cholesterol levels as opposed to genetics determining 80%.

Then, there is the notion of AAS. Every time we inject ourselves Testosterone and/or its derivatives, we are technically injecting ourselves cholesterol. Bummer.

Well said above. You just described me. I'm actually on a non-statin for cholesterol which my doc feels is due to genetics. He always tells me I'm one of the healthiest patients he sees and the cholesterol is not my fault. BP at 117 over 78 and consistent resting pulse of 52. So, other than my cholesterol this exercise lifestyle pays off....

My doctor was always concerned that my good cholesterol was too low albeit not that low. Starting about six moths ago when my blood work results came back he stopped commenting on the good cholesterol being too low. He said that they (the research to which he ascribes) indicate that there is no distinction between good and bad cholesterol, so everything that he had been telling me in the years leading up to this were not correct. You may want to check the recent research on this, and if my doctor is correct, bring your doctor the articles to bring him up to speed. I was soooo happy to hear the news. No more of this red wine crap (which I refused to drink because of the high carbohydrate content!).

BTW, test will raise your bad cholesterol levels.

That's interesting. I'll definitely look into it. Trip I didn't bump into any of that. I did a fair amount of research these past weeks on cholesterol levels. Seems there is always something new they are saying on old topics. I'm thinking doctors are kinda like the weather man

Got my LDL and hdl rechecked. Over tripled my good cholesterol from 11 to 37 in 5 weeks, also lowered my bad by 50 points woooohooo. Not in perfect shape yet but definitely headed in the right direction. Also did this while on cycle. 30 minutes min cardio 6 days a week, boxing twice a week and almost no red meat. Fish oils at night and that's really about it. All about that cardio for cholesterol
