Smoking and AAS
Im sure some of you guys out here may be able to offer some advice on this topic. I smoke cigarettes. I dont want to smoke cigarettes. Im getting ready for a cycle and know that I should stop smoking. Any way you look at it I will not benefit from smoking in any aspect of life. I have bought some nicorette gum and plan to start using that to get off the cigs. I know AAS, Diet and my lifestyle in general must be arranged properly if Im going to do this right. I plan on using my cycle and health in general is a "mental reason" to cease cigarette somking. My question is how will my cycle be effected if I am still chewing nicorette gum during the beginning of it? I can see nicotine having adverse effects on my blood pressure for starters. Any information/advice on this subject will be appreciated. Thanks, Brian.

I've smoked and drank while on cycle(maybe one weekend each month). The only thing I noticed was I got a weird "pumped" feeling when I drank, no effec from the cigarettes.

In general, its a terrible idea. AAS will negatively impact your lipid profiles, raising your TC, TG, LDL, and lowering your HDL putting you at risk for atherosclerosis, hyperlipidemia, hypercholesterolemia, DVT, and other cardiac events and/or risk factors. Smoking is already creating these risks factors for you so adding AAS on top of it will elevate those risk factors.
If your physical fitness is a priority, how the hell does smoking fit into the equation?!?!? There is no benefit to smoking. Drop the disgusting habit instead of increasing your risk for seriously dangerous events while cycling.
The answer should be obvious and this shouldn't even be a question.

I wonder if there are any stoners out there that are running cycles?? At the very least they probably consume a lot of calories a day (the munchies)

Again, this is no secret. Smoking is bad for you. The fact of the matter is, nicotine in moderation is not bad for you. What's mostly disastrous for your health tobacco and the paper wrapped around that cigarette. You're burning a piece paper and inhaling it into your lungs. That's a huge culprit. Imagine this... Sit in a room with no windows, set a stack of paper on fire and breathe it. That's what you're doing to yourself. Nicotine is simply addictive and like anything else, beyond moderation is not advised.
Increased Hematocrit Levels are one of the concerns with smoking, even off cycle. Smoking is a big player in your hematocrit levels. This is because your body is becoming starved for oxygen. Increased hematocrit means your blood is becoming thicker. This also happens in folks that live in high altitude locations. Same reason, not enough oxygen.
Oxygen Deprivation can affect your results because we already know that AAS leads to blood thickening. Double whammy. Let me rephrase that, it will absolutely without a doubt affect your results negatively. If your body is deprived of oxygen, this means your muscles are, too. Oxygen is a nutrient for muscles and is required for proper stimulation. No matter how good you think your progress is or how good you think you feel, you can do MUCH better with adequate oxygen in your system.
Protein Synthesis is affected by cigarette toxicity. This has been studied and proven. Non smokers have a higher basal rate when it comes to protein synthesis in the muscle. Furthermore; myostatin is elevated in smokers.
Cardiovascular System is weakened by smoking. The lack of oxygen for one, will crush your endurance levels. Both the heart and lungs need oxygen to perform any strenuous activity without collapsing too soon. Cigarettes carry 1000's of chemicals that cause lots of destruction to alveoli, these are air pockets that provide the lungs with elasticity and the ability to absorb more oxygen, all of which is hindered in smokers. That certainly will affect your progress.
The biggest concern is Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). This is where your blood becomes thick, which both cigarettes and steroids will cause, but cigarettes can also thicken the lining of vessels, making blood flow rough, even if your hematocrit levels seem normal. The result could DVT, which is a clot in a vessel. This could result in many complications, some very serious such as a heart attack. DVT requires surgery in most cases.
The liver does a decent job filtering toxins, however, there are three chemicals found in cigarettes that give the liver hell. Those are N-Nitrosodiethylamine, N-Nitrosopyrrolidine and Arsenic. All of these chemicals have been studied and proven to cause tumors and cancer in the liver. So while you're smoking, you're stressing your liver out by attempting to clean up the mess, and then introducing steroids to hit it with another... "Double Whammy".
Smoking is far more riskier than consuming alcohol. Unfortunately, many drinkers are also smokers. So the combination those two when coupled with oral steroids is a surefire way to cause issues for you now, or in the future.
In Closing, moderation is key with everything we do, even the harmful things. So please keep that in mind. You can still enjoy your life, but enjoy life while respecting your body. Your internal organs and circulatory system is working at a mind-boggling pace and conducting things most people couldn't fathom, all for the purpose of keeping you alive. You owe it to your body to treat it a little better. It's kept you alive this long, but it just might give up on you sooner than you'd like.

Thank you! Good commentary. I kept my response brief because I'm preparing a presentation on opiate use in moderate to severe acute and chronic pain management and the need for opiate antagonists on enteric mu and kappa opiate receptors in the prevention of opioid induced constipation. Could my Saturday night get any more exciting!?!?!?!?

I smoked and used steroids for 4 years I never felt anything other than disgust with myself. I have not smoked the last 3 years. Prior to that I stopped smoking for 12 years, started cos I wanted to kiss a woman smoker and decided 1 cigarette would not hurt!
We are all aware of the dangers of smoking. I also know many body builders who smoke when cutting to reduce food cravings.
Cigarettes and Tobacco should be illegal, steroids legal. The costs of health care would plummet. I grew up when we were all told of the benefits of smoking! It calmed you down. Tasted fresh. Looked sophisticated. Just look at the old adverts.
I am lucky, my body shows no damage from my smoking or from my early years of alcoholism. I have watched too many good people die, both go together. Please do not use tobacco or drink too excess either! Kindest regards, John

Thanks all. It is understood that smoking is not good in any way. Just trying to find out if nicorette will interact during a cycle or if I must avoid it during the start of my cycle while I would still be on it to aid in quitting. Thanks, Brian.

I smoke cigars...used to smoke 3 or 4 a day....since i started my gh cycle in may went down to 1 or possibly 2 per day. Prob with smokingbis that i cannot workout properly once i smoke....cardio goes to drains and i seem to lack the energy....so i work out around noon or in the early afternoon...smoking doesnt happen before 8nor 9 pm...
To help with nicotine needs i chew nicorette gum ... greatly curbs the need for a smoke.
Now on another note smoking and working out should never happen together i guess but what the heck...i can never resist a nice cuban cigar

I look at it this way you can not say your nutrition is on point if you smoke.

The question I was presenting wasnt "can I still smoke and cycle?", It was "will Nicotene (Nicorette) interact with AAS?". Anyone who has been alive the past 30 years should understand this. Im not eating untill im queasy, paying to cycle, spending time at the gym and other minor and major sacrifices just to still smoke. If im going to do this (cycle), im going to do it the best I possibly can. If I remained smoking then I wouldnt be doing all that I could to be as healthy as possible. I appreciate all comments, some for their humor and others for their insight. Smoking's bad, mmmmmmmkay. -Brian
