Its biologically active so it starts to degrade as soon as its reconstituted. The life is judged to be about 30 days. Potency diminishes over time so I assume the reason we see that written so often is that's the point where potency becomes degraded enough that it becomes an issue. I imagine at some point after that it would be rendered completely inert. I personally increase the dosage by a tiny bit each week from the mixing date to counter loss of potency.

If kept in the fridge, it holds up better. Up to 90 days I believe! And the 30day is said to be the point at which it would "begin" to lose potency but not enough to make a difference really. Either way I think you need 2x5000iu hcg for 10-16 week cycles

HCG keeps much longer than HGH in the frig. HGH is a live protein and it will slowly die over time. HCG is a distilled extract so it's not alive. It will degrade over time. 90 days is a good estimate on HCG effectiveness after reconstitution.

hCG never goes bad. Use it for 90 to 120 days with no issues. After that it will lose about 10% potency per month, which you would just increase your dose to accommodate the loss.

They are both peptide hormones. Neither is alive, as they do not form a cell and lack DNA/RNA. They're just chains of amino acids.
And HCG can be created in the same way as HGH, using recombinant DNA.
