    Prednisone and AAS

I've had this allergic reaction over the past couple weeks that just comes and goes. When it comes, I break out in itchy hives all over my torso, legs, ass and upper arms.

I went to the doc today en route to the airport and she prescribed me prednisone. I've heard things about prednisone that didn't sound good, namely that it is very catabolic and breaks apart muscle tissue. Other sides can be exhaustion and bloat.

Did some research on this tonight (as I sit here looking at my predisone bottle) and it seems to me that the best time to take prednisone would be during an aas cycle, which I am currently on, as it would counteract the catabolic nature of prednisone.

Another concern is that the AAS may just weaken the effects of the prednisone, prolonging the condition (hives).

Also read that glutamine may be a valuable asset against the muscle deteriorating properties of prednisone, but that seemed to be debunked by because Glutamine helps prevent your body from releasing cortisol. On the flip side, the prednisone is exogenous cortisol, so glutamine would only help prevent an additional release so it cant hurt, not to mention its immune enhancing effects, which prednisone can surpress.

Does anyone have any experience with prednisone, either on or off cycle, and what were the effects?

I've taken prednisone a few times but only for short lengths to cure poison oak. The only side effect I noticed was increased heart beat. Nothing serious though, just felt like I drink a cup of coffee. How long are you supposed to take the stuff? On the bottle it usually says to taper off slowly over the course of like 2 weeks to prevent rebounding effects. I never did this and instead tapered quickly to avoid using the drug any longer. I wouldn't listen to the B.S. about breaking down muscle tissue, doubt it's true.

Thx for the reply. Supposed to take for 6 days only. Was pretty tired today but that's nothing new.

No sign of any allergic reaction today (which has been an issue or the past couple days) so I'm going to keep taking it for now.

6 days is nothing. Enjoy the drug, it works wonders. I doubt you'll get any sides worth complaining about.

You'll never notice any catabolic effects in 6 days...

BTW, AAS would not interfere with prednisone. You're confusing it's side effects with intended effect (i.e. counteracting prednisone's catabolic effects would not cancel out the benefits, since an inflammatory condition is what you're trying to counteract, not anabolism. Steroids are not pro-inflammatory).

thanks bonaparte.. so are you saying that aas will, in fact, cancel out the catabolic effects of prednisone? Just wanted to confirm this..

    Shit...lol
You were correct the first time.
I read your conclusion wrong and thought you were asking if AAS canceled out Prednisone's positive effect (anti-inflammatory).

like Bona said, pred is mainly anti-inflammatory, thats how it controls allergic reactions. the metabolic side effects only start to set in after prolonged use. 5 days course is usually safe. i don't normally go higher than 30mg a day though..

Prednisone is amazing stuff and used for a wide variety of ailments as you probably know. It can also be a curse to some people, especially women. It causes a lot of people to gain and hold water weight and really bloat up. Some people have a really hard time loosing the weight even after they stop using it.

I have had to use it several times in the past due to my back. If ice wont help the sciatica nerve after a few days then prednisone is the next thing to try and it works 90% of the time.

I saw some scary pics of some people that took prednisone. They were all bloated and necks swelled up. I literally sat squirming until midnight the other night before breaking down and taking it.

LOL well it's good to be informed and a little paranoid and know what signs to watch for.

Come one, who are you kidding? The ladies never liked you. Remember, it's not the size of your hump or goiter, it's the size of your wallet.

Last rx for prednisone was for 14 days first ten days at 60mg, then taper off. days 3-6 barley slept was high as a kite and ready to jog, play tennis etc...around day ten I started to suffer from serious bloat which lasted a week after finishing the medicine.
