That's a great age and you will see great results. I Hadn't cycled for 15 years and did my first one again at 40 with great results. Bloodwork is smart and this place is fantastic for information not available 15 or 20 years ago.

your doc is wrong. This has been "disproven" by clinical studies recently. do your research and present your findings to your doc. if after you've had your blood levels checked for testosterone , and if they are low, you may probably benefit from Replacement Therapy. And you will probably get a better audience if you go to an endo (specialist).
Do yourself a favor and make this your first step. TRT takes around three years to fully kick in. This includes bone density improvement, etc.
You will find, with low T, that once you optimize your T levels, you will also have a better time of it in the gym.
So do some reading, educate yourself, and have your bloods checked.

I too have Kaiser. If in fact you do have low T, then ultimately you will want to be dealing with an Endo, not a GP.
If you are still looking to have kids, you should consult with a urologist (to see if you can get HCG ) to help protect your testicles and your fertility.
Since I was through with kids, I still went to the urologist. They asked me why I felt I needed HCG. I sat and thought about it. The only reason I came up with was for cosmetic purposes, (to preserve testicular size). Since neither my woman nor I are worried about this, I decided to skip the HCG altogether. That was a few years ago and I'm doing fine without.
