N-acetyl cysteine and n-acetyl L cysteine are two different names for the same compound.

There is also L-cysteine (free amino acid) available as a supplement. This will lack the N-acetyl group attached to the molecule and greatly influence pharmacokinetics as acetylation reduces first-pass metabolism by the liver.
For OP, this means NAC works as an effective prodrug for l-cysteine by helping the molecule reaching bodily tissues. L-cysteine alone if ingested is just not as effective.
