What's a good nights sleep worth

So we can all suffer from lack of sleep and see the effects in our training progress. But what effect does oversleeping have on your body and your gains; could sleeping more than 10 hours be significantly affecting your performance and gains?

8 hours in a nice number, but if 4 hours is the minimum amount of time your body needs to secrete enough growth hormone to repair the days damages how much more time is nessesary to grow without having your body enter a catabolic state. How much sleep is over kill?

You grow when you sleep....as far as whats too much sleep, i dont think anyone really has an exact number. I usually sleep 10-12hrs/ed. More competitive bb'ers sleep even more then that!

IMO i think 8 hrs is a minimum for people more active, 10hrs is even better. JMO

I make sure I get at least 8-9 hours of sleep every night. Sleeping is when your body recovers. It is just as important as diet and training.

It's all about keeping your body anabolic , not catabolic. A constant flow is what your looking for. As far as sleep, if you piss at night then slam a protein shake. I try to use casein before night because it absorbs slower. My keeping anabolic while at rest you can keep down your cortisol levels.

I say 8 hours is a good number... its enough to get a good nights rest for recovery puroses and short enough of entering a catabolic state during the night. I say the best is to have some good ole casein protein such as cottage cheese or something before bed like groverman said and getting about 8 hours in and maybe a nap of about 30-60 min during the day.

I like a baked potatoe before bed with some eggs or protein, I've a fairly active metabolism so I don't worry about the fat.

People who sleep less than 6 hours a day and more than 8 hours a day have a 30% greater chance of dying at a younger age than those who just get 8 hours of sleep.
