    running

Whats a good replacement for running, I hear the eliptical is great but I'd like to do something out doors that won't be so hard on my knees.

any type of cycling would be ideal - A close friend (a track runner) was unable to run for a 4 month period leading upto olympic trials. Instead of throwing in the towel he decided to ride his track sessions instead of run them. Using his heart rate and time as a guide he was able to keep his fitness. He came back to the trials and got through to the olympics near PB form. Impressive as I would have thought from the 4 months off running he would be no where near being track fit. Surprisingly this wasn't true...
