    Another appetite stimulant? - Megase

    http://www.drugs.com/misspellings/megase.html

    Haven't tried this one either.

    What is Megace (Megase)?

Megace (Megase) is a man-made chemical similar to the female hormone progesterone.

Megace (Megase) is used to treat loss of appetite and weight loss in certain patients. It is also used to treat unexplained, significant weight loss in patients who have AIDS. Exactly how it works to treat loss of appetite and weight loss is unknown

Megace (Megase) is also used in the treatment of advanced breast cancer and endometrial cancer. It may be used alone or with other treatments, including surgery and radiation, to stop the growth of the tumor.

Megace (Megase) may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Megace (Megase) side effects include weight gain, changes in appetite, stomach upset, diarrhea, gas, trouble sleeping, decreased sexual ability/desire, or fever. Women may experience changes in their menstrual periods, including unpredictable bleeding.

Most common application is in oncology. It's about 50% effective in our patients as an appetite stimulant. Most commons side effects:

    - dyspepsia
    - insomnia
    - diarrhea
    - anemia
    - impotence
    - headaches
    - fever

In a few instances, I've seen:

    - adrenal suppression
    - leukopenia
    - DVTs

I;m totally clueless, and since you seem to know, then let me ask. Of those that take this med, what % do you estimate would come down with one of these side effects?
