    Protein bars

Sorry if this should be in the supplement forum, but here it is. We all know the best foods are whole, natural, organic and unprocessed; but sometimes its just not possible. Does anyone have a recommendation for the best protein bars?

I wouldn't eat any of the protein bars because most of them are usually loaded with sugar.
So I'd say make your own using oats, egg whites, whey protein etc there are recipes in the recipe section.

I also agree about making your own - but check out Quest bars. Seems to be one of the best ones for natural ingredients, low sugar and low sugar alcohols. Not perfect - but better than disguised candy bars.

there's many choices in the organic sections, no sugar ( other carbs) if it fits your macros then whatever, you'll know it's good if it didn't have a chemically boosted shelf life (I love the hypocrisy, we're against chemicals...... lol)

I keep nuts for emergencies, I use to make my own beef jerky, but it's too much work. lol
Most of those bars taste good but they are usually high in sugar. Never looked at the quest bar, might have to.

Hey Easy - let me know what you think about Quest. I'd be interested in your thoughts.
I bought a box of peanut butter flavor.

Great discussion and info. Thanks everybody. I'll try the quest and think thin (prob not kit kat - thx aust). I would rather eat whole natural foods but sometimes its either eat a bar with 25-40 grams of protein or totally miss my mark for the day.

Protein bars = candy bar + protein powder

Aust had a great cake recipe for protein cake that I modified and made muffins out of.

    2 cups Oats
    2 cups egg whites
2 cups non fat cottage cheese
    2 scoops protein powder

Put all in blender and pour into the cupcake molds. I use the paper liners. Oven 375 for 15 - 20 mins. You will need to experiment with your oven.

2 whole eggs, 2 spoons of natural peanut butter, teaspoon of vanilla extract, scoop and a half of whey protein powder, Stevia or sugar substitute. Mix and put 9- 12 balls on a tray with grease proof paper, cook for no longer than 10 mins. They should flatten out and you have lil protein cookies!

Quest bars are good but the cal count is off. Isn't it. Tried to stay away from protein bars when nearing competition times because of all the sugar and carbs.. But eas makes good ones as well

You're right protein bars shouldn't be a staple, but if you get in a pinch Quest bars are where it is at! My favorite two flavors, and I've tried almost all of them, is choc chip cookie dough and their brand new flavor double choc chunk. Heat these babies up in the micro for 10 secs and it really improves the taste and texture. These bars are also very low carb. I always try to keep a bar with me, either in the car or in my gym bag. Try them out and you will thank me! Note: I am not a salesman for Quest

Thanks for the info. Sounds like quest is a favorite for those times when you just have to have something quick for the energy or protein. I certainly don't want to make bars a staple or even have one every couple of days, but sometimes I get a call that totally interrupts my eating schedule and its a protein bar or nothing. Gonna try some of the recipes this weekend, too.

    Don't ever listen to aust.

Unless its about fat loss, steroids , AI and other ancillaries, or recipes. Besides that he has no idea what he is talking about.

This is a wonderful site!!! I may have to make some of the protein bars/cakes. Will have to purchase a few ingredients first. They do look yummy!!!

I wonder if these would be well received at the Christmas pot luck??? I always bring something healthier.
