    Has anyone made Tallow ?

    Looking to try making Tallow, I can buy beef fat from my butcher for only $0.99 per lb

    Looked at a few recipes online just want to make sure I understand correctly ;

    - Melt fat in pot, low heat, 4-6 hrs
    - Strain with coriander or cheese cloth
    - Put into container and store in fridge (do I let it cool to room temp first )
    - Use just like butter

    Never have made tallow, but when friends have a cow processed they usually give us the oxtails and neck bones, occasionally some shank bones and we make bone broth. Really f-in good on rice or as a base for soups, especially in the winter.

    Nice - I wouldn't mind giving that a try one day. I've cooked bone marrow and used the liquid as butter which was pretty good.

    Going to try making tallow tomorrow or weekend and post a picture up.

    I would think you could let it cool some then pop
    It in the fridge. The fat will separate some when cooled in the fridge.

    This reminds me, I need to cook some bacon and jar up the grease!

    So I got halfway through - started at 6 am. While I was using the washroom, I woke someone up - she runs in to the kitchen screams bloody murder and throw the pot into the backyard. Lmfao....damn vegetarians -_-

    Atleast I got the fat for free from the butcher, will have to try again some other time.
    I no longer check my inbox. If you PM me I will not reply.

    Aw, dang, that's too bad. When you get more beef fat, maybe you can snag some bones as well. Give the veggies from the bone broth to the vegetarian if they'll eat them?
