I agree with the title in the article.

Testosterone is inexpensive. In the past, low T often led to depression, and so the docs treated it with anti depressents
and low libido - so they treated that symptom with a pde5I
and if your E was too high, then they treated it with a variety of meds that addressed the risks of heart attack, stroke, etc....

why would it be a bad thing to treat the real root cause of the problem, instead of the symptoms.

now, I'll be the first to admit that there are a few here that want to go on TRT with test levels too high, and that is maybe what the article is implying?

I just didn't care for the way they described the low t crowd as an uncontrolled experiment. They make false claims that it hurts us, more than helps. I just wonder where they get their facts.

The greed statement is probably true. Gels cost hundreds of dollars a month, compared to the inject route. And as far as guys going on TRT that don't need it, that may be true, but you still need doctors' ok. I in fact just got kicked off TRT because I am now in normal range.

So here's a pill for that ailment, and another for the sides of the first. And another for the.........

I would be comfortable with insurance only covering injectable testosterone .

But I'm a little curious about the comment you made (see bold). The whole point of TRT is because your low T levels are causing a whole host of side effects that exogenous T resolves. So now that you are in the "normal" range (exo test is supposed to put you there), then why would you come off? TRT is for life, right? T levels drop over time, and not the other way around.

    Very confused...

canada slapped androgel on the wrist for playing up testostosterone and minimizing the risks in their commercials...

this was just a few months ago.

It's no secret, big pharma is behind drugs like androgel and they need people to use their drugs or they don't stay in business. Right or wrong, they've certainly always been a group that wants people to use drugs.

    For roman:

This is from a thread I started:
    UPDATE 5/17/13

    Attachment 138875

these are my only tests they had me run. saw endo on wednesday, said all is good, see ya. no more trt for me. quite surprised by the test results, no pct when i came off to retest, and about 3 months since my last pin. the only major change is that i quit taking statins about 15 months ago. so statins crushed my testosterone levels , in 2 years on them. but i told him my fella still doesn't work, and i don't feel energetic like i did, when i was at 700+. so he says, " ok, so here's a referral for a urologist ". i'll see him in 2 weeks.

i have a script for viagra, but i don't want to rely on it. i have a feeling my e is off, but no tests were done for that. i may just do the blood work out of my own pocket, just to rule that out.

Another bash written by some weak-suits IMO. Sanjay Gupta of CNN had some old-decrepit on a few Sundays ago who was bashing the whole TRT movement. He developed the banned-substances testing for the Olympic Committee & other organizations. What would you expect him to say? Duh....

    Simvastatin 40 mgs
    Substituted for zocor

I wish I still had the drug description for it. Never mentioned low t as a side. Doc was only concerned with liver function. Unfortunately I never got a baseline on t.
But after the first year on it, I did some research on statin sides, low t being one of them. After the second year, I did get tested for low t, after I raised some issues with doc. T came in at 350ish. Here's some Viagra. Into the 3rd year, tested again, went down to 256. Ok, here's some androgel . Then went to cyp.

The rest of the story is posted above.

It's time to get my cholesterol checked again, and I am very curious to see where I'm at. If I have to go back on statins, this experiment will start all over again. Low t, and I'm back on TRT.

Not familiar with that Statin, but one of the issues with these type drugs is that some Docs put their patients on too high a dose. I'm on 5 mgs of Crestor 3 x week and all my lipids are very good. Good luck...

This is one of my concerns with trt being so readily available. You have all these people saying its being "abused" and how bad it is ect ect... Lets say hypothetically it became much harder to obtain a prescription for trt, what would that mean for all of the guys on trt right now that didn't have clinically low T levels to begin with? It wouldn't be hard for people to see all the guys that are on trt and are blasting and cruising or "saving up" their trt test for a blast, from a online board like this for example. Don't get me wrong I'm in no way opposed or against trt I think it's great, just something to think about.

    I'll throw this out there.......
Speculation, rumor, whatever, the high rollers, brokers, etc, on wall street, are taking T, to get that "EDGE" back. I have absolutely no proof of this, but I wouldn't put it past them. If you have the money, anything's possible.

My Doc said a large percentage of his TRT patients are VIP executives who find out their levels are insufficient. They've never touched a weight in their lives, but are on it to better themselves in keeping up with their demanding careers. Nothing wrong with this IMO. As long as you're treating a medically diagnosed condition...
