ok, whats the story on insulin? damn US customs

Just got a letter from customs today that they confiscated my humalog. Seems its considered prescription, and I looked up humulin R and it seems to be too. Guess I got lucky in the past with my other order, as it made it through fine. Ive heard people say they just walk up to a pharmacy here in the US and buy humulin R without prescription, but the online pharmacies here in the US say different. Those of you that are using insulin , what have you found to be the case and whats the easiest way to go about getting?

Wow they seized your Humalog? Humulin-R can be purchased OTC in the U.S. varying on your state. I live in CT and you can get it OTC.

Ok, so it varies by state. Ive heard that, and that humulin r can be bought. How about humalog, is it prescription in all states? I wonder if I changed my order to humulin r ,would customs then let it pass? I live in Ohio. Trying to find on the web if humulin r is prescription or not in Ohio but cant find it. I hate to change to humulin r, humalog is so much shorter acting.

Yeah, it was a canadian pharmacy I ordered from. Going to just have them resend and see if it gets through. They seemed to think it will, they do this all of the time when shipping to the US. According to the tech at the pharmacy its illegal to bring any prescription drugs into the country because the FDA wont approve any non US pharmacies for distribution. I always thought it was legal if it was for personal use and a quanity for 3 months or less, guess I was wrong. The letter customs sent didnt even give me the choice of trying to get back the insulin by showing a precription, all it did was give me 2 choices of how it would be destroyed at the tax payers expense.

Well you guys are right> It does matter from state to state. You see humalog as explained by my dr. is fast acting and also a bit stronger so its considered for some reason more dangerous than R or N or lantis etc.So in most states you need a script.Being diabetc myself Ive gone through it all.
