Always always be concerned about using clean sterile tools. Never skimp on cleaning, swabs, pins etc.
It is the ONLY way.
Please heir on the side of saftey.

I just fill one syringe with my total dose, inject 1/2 on one side, then go straight to the other side and inject the remaining 1/2. I alcohol the vial and injection sites thoroughly prior to inserting the syringe. Since I'm not re-inserting the used syringe in the vial I can't imagine there is much, if any, risk of infection this way. Someone (who knows for sure) please correct me if I'm wrong.

You should be good to go. But you do raise the risk level by abit.
Pins are a one deal shot and that is the most sanitary way. Now the risk is very very low but still none the less you should always heir on the side of caution just to be safe.
Our world has changed so drastically when it comes to new little " bugs " out there. We should always be 100% on guard and protect ourselves.

Go to a pharmacy and ask them for a hazardous waste container then just drop it off at the hospital for disposal when it is full. The container is pretty big so it will take awhile to fill it ( specially with wee slin pins ). Nice and tidy and safe disposal.
Actually you might even find a pharmacy that gives them out for free and disposes of them too.
