    Humalog

I have a 10ML vial of Humalog, it says 100 IU/mL on it....

Excuse my ignorance, but if I have a u100 insulin syringe, I want to go back 10 units for each IU, right? So if I want 5 IU's, I would go to the 50 unit mark....?

    Thanks,

NO! 5 IUs would be the 5 unit mark. 100ius = 1ml. DO NOT use 50iu of slin in one shot

Thanks Polska. That's why I don't do a damn thing before checking here first. My HGH conversion has me all ****ed up.

I wasn't even close to injection time, I'm weeks away, but that's some scary shit, 50IU's would check you out quick.....

You definitely do not want to inject 50IU at one time.

Ok, so I'm still trying to figure out this new Humalog vial I got. Like I said, it says 1x10mL and then it says 100IU/mL.

Polska says that I should go back to the .5 for 5 IU's, but this is impossible. I took a u100 syringe and pulled back to the 100 unit mark and it barely made a dent in the vial....if it was .5 for 5IU's then the 100 unit mark should have taken the whole vial of liquid, right?

What gives, how the hell do I know how many units to pull back per IU?

    Thanks,

    rbfallon

I got this off the Internet if that helps, this is what I have:

Humalog (insulin lispro injection, rDNA origin) vials are available in the following package size: 100 units per mL (U-100)

    10 mL vials NDC 0002-7510-01 (VL-7510)

I think I was right from the beginning.

Each ML of Humalog contains 100IU's. There is 10ML in the vial. So there are 1000IU's (100x10) in each vial. If I pull back 100 units on a u100 syringe then I would be withdrawing 1/10th of the vial or 10IU's, so therefore I would need to pull back to the 50 unit mark to withdraw 5 IU's.

Am I smoking crack here? I'm losing my mind.

    Thanks,

    rbfallon

Thanks for the detailed explanation man, you have me convinced.

Can you tell me where you disagree with my logic/math and why?

If what you say is true, then 1 vial will last me 100 injections at 10IU's per injection. Are you telling me that one 10ML vial of Humalog should last me months?

    100iu per 1ml 10ml = 1000 ius. it should last you for a while.

1/10th of the vial would be 100IU's not 10IU's....I'm an idiot. What a brain**** that was.....sorry guys. I feel better though.

Yes it should last you months. The syringes you have are designed to be used with insulin . 10 units on the syringe indicates 10iu of insulin. 50 does not equal 5. Keep your humalog in the fridge and it'll last you right until the expiry date on the bottle.

    This thread scares me.

I wonder if some people actually act on their first belief like this....no good
