I'm 24 and I have the same thing.

My chiropractor said it was a little bit of crepatitis which is supposedly normal in a lot of guys at my age who have played a lot of sports and lifted a lot(like me).

She said it is normal wear and tear for my age...according to her.

Mine seems to come and go every now and then.

Hope this is of some help.

agree, crepitius, and probably the begining of DJD which happens to all of us over time, it is a part of getting old.no reason to be concerned

If it doesnt hurt it could just be your kneecaps tracking, all human bodies are not perfectly and symetrically made, and the knee joint is very complex in mechanics, it happens to all of us all the time, just strengthen the muscles and they will help protect the joints. Make sure you dont destroy the joints while strengthening the muscles though!

Have your doc check for chondromialgia, its where he presses down on your knee cap then you flex. If it hurts really bad then it means you a fibrous build up under the knee cap. It only hurts when the doc does this test. Lots of athletes get that.

If it sounds like rice crispies when you walk up stairs it probably is crepitius . If there is no pain involved you will be ok ...... for now . You will need a scrape to clean it up later down the road .
Try to lay off hardcore exercises and sports if possible this will give you a wee bit more life out of your joints . ( I am speaking from experience )
Go see a switched on Physio Therapist for exercises to strengthen your joint and to work around this problem .
Glucasime MSM etc will also help prolong healthy joints .
One last thing ...if you can loose weight . The less stress on those knees the better .
I was 250 lbs and because of my job which is very physically demanding I dieted and now at 210 lbs my joints feel WAY better . The difference is amazing .
