SLAP tear in upper labrum
Got MRI results back and there is a slight tear in my upper labrum. sports doctor recommended arthroscopic surgery but was thinking doing a stem cell procedure instead. Has anyone had any experience with this kind of injury? And what should I be doing in the meantime it really only bugs me during chest flyes. No chest/shoulder days?

I'm no doctor, but have experience dealing with injuries while lifting. I recommend staying off of chest and shoulders for a few weeks and let your body heal itself, then slowly ease your way back in. High reps low weight to build the muscle endurance, then slowly climb. Good luck!

That is what I am thinking. Stem cell procedure might be the way to go though.

Non invasive conservative treatment works well. I've worked with patients with SLAP lesions and had good results, resting for a brief time and then starting up PT focusing on muscles of the shoulder girdle will help your recovery. After 6 weeks if symptoms do not resolve then surgery. Haven't heard of stem cell approach yet, but I'd still suggest therapy before any surgery especially if its a relatively small lesion.

I would be interested in knowing what you did for your shoulder. Being in the arena of rehabilitation I have have seen many athletes come back from having their labrum repaired but it's usually a 6-8 month recover at the min. I have never heard of a stem cell treatment and would like to know how it went if you decided to do the stem cell treatment.

I've had the slap tear also. Rest at first, then rehab, then strengthen.

SLAP lesions will not heal on their own, but depending on the size of the tear it's possible to strengthen the surrounding muscles enough to compensate for the injury. Keep in mind that if left unrepaired, there is a high probability of making the tear worse with heavy weight lifting.
The standard for treatment is a couple months of PT and if still no relief, then surgical options should be discussed.
If you're lucky and have a small tear, conservative methods are your best option, although it may take several months to see any significant improvement.
If your tear is large or normal function cannot be achieved through PT, surgery is the way to go. Recovery sucks, there's no way around that. Depending on the procedure you're looking at roughly a 6-8 month recovery. Many people don't get full ROM for several more months after that.

I just found out i have one yesterday. I am going to try and avoid surgery, my MRI doesnt look great but I have talked to quite a few people who have got away without surgery.
Also i have heard some bad outcomes from surgery loosing mobility and what not.
What can and cant you do with you shoulder

I hope it works out for you. Have you started PT yet?
SLAP lesions are no joke, much more likely to be problematic than a Bankart lesion.
All labral tears are difficult to assess on an MRI which makes it difficult to predict your recovery. Surgeons often aren't able to determine the extent of the damage until they actually get in there.

Had a second stem cell surgery. Shoulder is better but pain is still noticeable. My doctor is familiar with the bodybuilding scene and he suggested on my own try gh injections. Obviously I can't and he can't do the injections, but I was wondering if this would help.

If you can't do regular HGH then try peptides. I used them last year and got noticeable results. Much cheaper than real HGH. Also in my experience the older you are the more results you'll see.
