    New to testosterone replacement

I'm 36 yo male. 2 weeks ago I got my test levels checked at my local VA hospital, I'm a VET, and my total test was 139 (250-1100 range) and free test was 32 (35-? Range) I hurt my back in the Marines a few years back and I'm taking a total of 150mg of oxycodone a day. Today I talked to my doc, and he says these levels are a bit low for my age, but the pain pills may have something to do with it. He ordered another round of hormone tests to be done, and if low testosterone is confirmed, he will send me to get an MRI for my head ( pituitary glands) before placing me on HRT. My question is, how low are my levels really for my age? What is LH test? Does pain pills commonly lower testosterone , and is it reversible after stopping pills? I've heard so many good things about HRT and I'm really hoping I qualify. Thanks in advance!

Welcome. I hope that pain meds don’t affect T levels. I have been on pain meds for 19 months now. Maybe this is why I have hit a plateau and can’t get over it. I don’t have any of the S&S of low T. Do you have symptoms of low T?

I don't have low T but I do notice I don't want to train and my appetite gets suppressed when I take my prescribed Norco (not a daily thing, comes in short spurts of like a week at a time). i think I remember reading a study about how opioid drugs can cause low T if taken for more than a certain period of time. I'll post if I can find it again.

Check out some of the other links that branch from there too. Sources and the like. Interesting reading.
