whats the answer to this question? I know that since I am "off" my body can be prone to going catabolic with too much cardio. I was doing 25min 3-4 times a week while on cycle. I know last time I did major cardio while natural I lost a TON of muscle and didn't even cut up that much

YOu will not go into a catabolic state if your doing cardio right, i.e. brisk walk or moderate biking. And your only burning fat for 5 minutes if your only doing cardio for 25 minutes, so thats not much fat burning.

when I do it, I go HARD. I hit the elliptical machine, going about 190-200 strides per minute the whole time. I kinda do sprints too, getting up past 300 strides per minute. I do that in intervals when I start to get bored.

well why don't you suggest something rather than trying to be snide over the internet. Obviously something I did worked because I am way more ripped now.

I have a similar problem, I am currently on pct as well, but I play very strenuous games of basketball 2-3 times a week for my cardio. Usually after I have been to the gym already. Is this a bad thing? I usually get a post-workout meal eventhough it is usually burger king in between the gym and the bball court. I have been cutting carbs and playing basketball and I feel I have not retained much of my gains due to trying to be slimmer for summer-time.

they say your heart rate needs to be working between 60-80% max for fat burning to take affect, but if you have any carbs in your meal 1-2 hours before that will be used as fuel for the first 20mins, after that the body converts to burning fat a fuel. I suggest you do you CV in the morning before any food as you will start to burn fat from the start and your first meals kcals should come from FAT and Protein alone, no carbs. You'll still burning fat 30 mins after your CV so a carb meal after would only transfer the energy burning to your food again. FAT can't be stored without carbs so don't worry about just FAT and Protein meals. You will always lose some muscle when dieting, but providing you keep the kcals up you should be fine.

    peace

Heres some advice on fat burning cardio. Take a brisk walk for an hour on an empty stomach.

So then 40mins in the morning on an empty stomach is still ideal?

Yeah, 40 minutes is ok, but an hour would be better. Don't do it too hard either, a brisk walk is the way to go IMO.

I just read an thread in this section titled "HOW TO KEEP GAINS FROM STEROIDS "
and it said keep cardio to 30 mins, 3 times a week because anymore "could" effect your recovery.

I can tell you that you will not lose muscle from doing a brisk walk for more than 30 minutes, maybe running for longer but not walking.

i am 21 also and4.5 mph sounds about right, i keep the treadmill around 4.2 and its a pretty brisk walk, gets my heart rate around 135-140 which is where it should be. If you're really trying to cut up to, i'd hit it more than 3X a week. 5-6 is more what you should be doing.
