    first competition

    Hey everyone,

Yesterday i competed in my first PL comp.

I came 14th out of 16 in my catagory. (but i was also lifting more than people in the higher wieght catagory??)

After controlling my nerves and stepping to the rack i managed a 264 squat, (yes i know, im weak)

Then on bench, i got 203! (once again, i know im weak!)

Then deadlift, i got 396, no bad for a beginner.

Anyway, i only trained for this comp for like 3 months, so i wasnt expecting anything huge. But i really wanna smash my personal best on all three lifts for next time. any advice on how to increase my strength and beat my pb's would be great. cheers.

Agreed, good job. Obviously you not super strong yet but you still had the courage to jump in there and that mindset will make you number 1 someday. Congrats bro

Thanks alot guys, i really appreciate the replys, here's my split.
bear in mind im not training specifically for powerlifting. what im trying to do is increase my bench, dead and squat to add more thickness to my frame and get more strong. My routine isnt set in stone, and is usually bb orientated. the reason for this would be that i would like to compete in both PL and bbing.

For example on chest day i would do my 1 rep maxs on flat bench first, and then hit chest in a bbing fashion with a rep range of 8-12 with 3 or 4 sets, using incline bar press and dumbells etc...

flat bench - warm up to 1x203, then do 2 sets of 1 rep at 203
    Incline bench - 4 sets of 8-12x160
    flat dumbell press - 4 sets of 8-12 with 77lbs db's
cable flys super setted with dips - 4 sets of 8-12 on flys, and then dips to failure.

so on back days, i do my deadlifts first and then do rows, pullups, pulldowns, and various machines and cables to finish

Then on leg day i start with squats, and then do extensions, lunges and curls to finish.

i also dedicate two days a week on doing arms and shoulders.

my routine is like this usually -

    Day 1 chest
    2 legs
    3 off and cardio
    4 back
    5 shoulders
    6 arms
    7 off and cardio
    8 repeat
    also abs once a week
    cheers
