    Fat people at the gym rant

    So who has been to the gym and watched these Obese people (350lbs+) who go and walk from one station to another every 10 minutes and dont do ANYTHING? I was watching one guy the other day that in 1 hrs time all he did was 1 stet of triceps pull downs. LOL I see people like that all the time.

    Another rant is these guys and women who are FAT that go and all they do is a couple sets of arms; ie. curls, pull downs or bench, sitting of course.

    Dont these people have a clue that first they need to put the fork down and they try some cardio? Forget the weight lifter. Get on the bike, treadmill or go for a walk.

    Just to clarify;.... This is a Rant, not hate or anger, I dont know where some are getting that from.

    I was born 11 lbs, 1'1" and 5% BF, you could see my abs but had to do some milk bottle lifts for better abs.

    When I first started working out I had a pretty good idea and was not 100 - 200 lbs over weight.

    If I had a car with a blown engine I would not take it to Maco to get it painted and expect it to run again. You have to have some idea of what needs done. I think a lot of these people are just clueless and that's how they got that way in the first place.

    I thought of that but NO, they will expect results without putting any effort in and quit. They would be 1000x better off eating healthier and walking until they get to a weight where they can exercise a little without having a heart attach. I look at it as just another excuse for them to say they tried but it didn't work.

    what I personally hate, are the "mirror freaks". Ya know, the ones who you never see at the squat rack. Always doing biceps and chest, and checking himself out in the mirror every 5 minutes. Walks around like he owns the gym...

    The same ones who see a bigger guy doing a new work out, and when the big dude leaves, they start immitating the work out trying to get as big instantly, that's always funny, cause the workout ends up a hilarious un-coordinated moves, just like a monkey.

    They see someone who they would like to look like, and believe that if they do what they do...they will eventially look like them.

    Maybe they do no know what to do...why don't you offer to give them some advise.

    Maybe they give up because they do not know where to start, and they do not see results because they do not know what they are doing.

    I was extremly obese...5'9 305lbs of fat when I started working out...it would have ment the world to me to have someone offer up a little help without charging me $75 an hour. If you haven't been there, you would not understand the amount of courage it takes to even step into a gym at that size. How dumb you feel even being there. Knowing that people like you, love to give condisending looks, and snickers, instead of offering up a bit of free advise.

    You know what kept me in the gym...I made a friend that trained people there. Made me forget about looking stupid and feeling like I didn't even belong in a gym. I looked forward to talking to him, which kept me going, even when I didn,t feel like working out....

    Just food for thought.

    I hear people all the time saying legs and back are a waste of time.

    The problem is that most people are "atmospheric", like if they JUST walk into the gym and watch the news or Oprah, they think to themselves " wow, I kicked ass today, sat on the machine and watched the entire show, I deserve a pint of Ice Cream, my cheat meal "
    and once they lost 5-10 lbs you'd see them walking into the gym the most athletic walk with wrist wraps, back belt, gloves and maybe a pair of soccer Kleets, its all sports, ain't it

    I know its been a long time but think back to how intimidated you were when you first stepped into a gym. You looked around you and just about everyone was build/toned and pulling heavy weight. Its a hell of an ego crusher at first as it really shows where you are compared to others but in the end if they keep asking questions/watch people/learn they will succeed.

    Excatly, now the problem is that most don't.
    From my experience working at a gym 10 hours/day I see how people behave in and out of the gym.
    about 80% of the gym members got no fvckin clue what they are doing.
    the mass majority know that you gotta have lots of "shakes" to get big

    And if you are big well developed and their not, they would think 2 things, either you are on AAS "shoot and sit back watching muscles poppin' every where" or you have no life.

    The way I know so, is by talking to alot of out of shape members, most ofthem believe that cardio is the most important aspect of it all as to be in shape. yet they work out almost daily but no results and blame it on the "GENES".

    I walk around with a BIG sign on my shirt says "TRAINER", beside the gym offers a COMPLEMENTARY fitness assessment to the members.
    guess what, most of them reject that, although its free and very benefeical.

    Too much ego to admit that they are out of shape and how on earth this big buff ripped guy could know better than them?! he is on AAS, he knows nothing.

    Most think that you need to pay a trainer to ask them anything. Its the gyms job to advertise to their members that a trainer is always there to help.

    See thats the thing, every time a new member sign up or re-news their agreement, they are either told that on spot or contacted by phone later, out of 10 people 1-3 agree to recieve the FREE session.
    thats my point.

    yeah they deserve a little credit for turning up. coz if they werent going gym they d be another thread elsewhere ranting on about fat ppl not going to the gym

    I understand that people have different goals and everyone needs to start somewhere. I also realize that when I first started working out I did TONs of things wrong. Poor form, poor work out routine, poor diet for my goals etc. I watch people/kids making the same mistakes but they will get some results. I'm talking about the LARGE people who do nothing. The most exercise they got was walking from the car to the gym and then sit on the machine/bench that you would really like to be using. Yeah I could go up and say excuse me can I use this but I'm also a little shy/timid and most of the time they really stink from BO and it's not from working out.

    I think it's great that some gyms have trainers. They should make it mandatory that when you first sing up you have to spend the first 5 or 10 visits with the trainer unless it's obvious you know what you are doing and even they everyone can use a few pointers.

    It's in no way hate. I have friend that are quite large but there is no ignorance on their part. They know they eat to much but enjoy it. That is not my rant.

    Because that is all I do is go to the gym and look at other people. I knew someone had to go there. No I'm not the guy who stands at the water cooler watching everyone else and criticizing them, this is just my rant from experience. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed it, I just wanted to bring it up.

    I honestly do not get mad anymore but feel sad for them and how it reflects upon our society. Something like 75% of people over the age of 25 are overweight.

    It is depressing to me because:

    a) as a country, our health is among the worst in the world
    b) no one makes an effort to learn effective exercise techniques
    c) these people will get sick, in masses, and become very expensive

    That's exactly why we are RANTING cause when they get sick and get medical and medicare and other FREE medical services, will guess wt? tax money is paying, just because they decided that another 1/2 lb of Ice Cream won't hurt.

    saw a 400lb guy on a stairmaster. did it for ten minutes. got off and drank a 400 calorie carbo load drink...... wtf was the point of even doing the stairmaster?

    OK that guy was making a mistake and deserved credit for trying. He needed someone to point out that what he was drinking was just putting back what he had gotten rid of but at least he was getting his heart going and building some mussle.
    If I had seen this guy I am talking about do ANYTHING near that or even walk for 5 minutes on the treadmill or bike I would have given him some credit. This guy was easily 350 - 400 lbs.
    The other person/people I am talking about is typically young to middle aged girls/women who also sit around; no tread mill, no bike and do a couple rows or curls using 5-10 lbs and only one set then stand around talking. These girls/woman are not obese by any means but 40+ lbs over weight and need to also get out walking or doing something.

    I'm sorry if I sound like I'm being cruel but that is not the rant. I'm not the most energetic and don't work nearly as hard as many people.

    Sometimes I only spend 30 - 45 minutes in the gym. I get in, do what I need and get out. I don't slam the weights or go 100 miles an hour. I'm seeing my best results ever by doing VERY slow precise reps. I don't see how many I can pump out in a short time, I try to see how controlled, steady and consistent I can be. I don't know it all, I will never to claim to and always listen to advice whether I decide to use it or not is up to me.

    I dont expect everyone or someone obese to spend and hour or two in the gym at a constant sweat. After my back surgery a few months ago I only went once or twice a week just to do some cardio, bike and or treadmill. I could only walk for 5 minutes or so but I could ride the bike for 10. It was pathetic but it was something. I did not go and sit around or do nothing. that is my point, why go if you are not going to do ANYTHING?

    i know the type. they go for social reasons. most have nothing else or nowhere else to go. they are usually middle aged house wives without jobs who go to say that they are trying to lose the weight they put on when having a baby 15 years ago, but it is soooo hard. they blame the weight not coming off because of aging and not the lack of effort or a piss poor diet

    I always see fat kids standing next to a cardio machine while their skinny friend is wasting away on the tread mill. It blows my mind.

    I feel bad for them to an extent. Years ago I used to work fast food, and I would get obese people in all the time that would order the equivalent of 5 meals for just themselves, but turn around and want a Diet Pepsi (because they were convinced they were getting fat from that!). Too many of them are falling for all that Atkins crap, where if I eat 30lbs of meat, its all good! Most of them try and use the gym to justify themselves, "I go to the gym everyday for an hour, and even started drinking diet pop, why can't I loose weight? Sure I ate a 12 piece bucket from KFC, but hey.... I am on Atkins!"

    MMMmmmmm KFC. I love BBQ chicken.... the perfect cheater meal.

    Yes I know several rather large people who drink a LOT of diet pop. I contribute 60% of their size to the amount of pop they drink, like a 6 pack a day. I think I have maybe 1 pop a month now. MMMmmmm BBQ KFC and Coke. LOL

    Well some people are ignorant you can try. I dont like to see though people who are out of shape.Mind you some younger people who are new to training have just been poorly raised or simply did not know any better.

    Some peole are just, jealous, ignorant or lazy screw them.

    If i can tell the person genuinely asks you for advice just help them, they respect you.

    YOu cant hate someone whos working out cause their fat. someone who is 300 pounds is ignorant thats their own fault and they got more problems then eating. People that fat is not from just like to eat, drink beer, and eat snacks and TV. people that big are depressed and eat for different psychological reasons. they often are forced by others to workout and dont want to be their, usually ignorant, and dont believe nothing is wrong or they are fat.

    Then their is ones who are willing to work. I have had a few skinny guys i seen manytimesbut they keep trying for months and they asked me for help ill usually be nice. But the ignorant ones screw them.

    I have no problem with fat people at the gym, it's old people at the supermarket that piss me off
