    Abs please!

Hey guys I got my routine pretty much figured out but feel like my ab work outs may be a little plain. I really don't have the nicest abs but am very motivated to work on it. So far I do abs 3 times a week. On my ab day I'll do 3 exercises at 4 sets and 20 reps each. I'm doing ball crunches(sometimes I'll hold a weight) cable crunches and leg raises. I'll turn to the side when I crunch upwards to try and hit the sides as good as possible. So anyway I want to know if this is sufficent or if I should try something different? Thanks alot for any help!

I have a consistent routine. I have 2 hours of cardio 6 days a week. I also try to get 500 situps every day(50 situps x 8 times). then I sometimes lift weights with them. I also do usea 20 lb weighted vest on some occasions. also try doing v ups, bicycles, plank(start at 1 min go up 30 seconds each week), and crunches. your core will be amazingly strong if you do any of that on a consistent basis. I'm always told I have the best abs!

You get abs in the kitchen bro. Have to be strict on diet as its all about getting the bf down first, then do the weighted stuff to chunk them up a bit

Aron that is one crazy routine! Sadly between work and my gf I don't quite have time for something that extensive.
I'm ya I've recently made diet my main priority after letting myself get out of shape due to poor diet. Down 10 pounds so far and will keep cutting till I see abs. I just want to make sure that when I get the body fat down I have some nice abs to see!
Guess I'll just stick to the diet and keep doing as much cardio and core as I can of course well maintaining my career, gf, and weight lifting! Lol not enough time in a day!

I do but we usually split ways once we get there. I spend most my time on weights with a bit of cardio and she goes to the girls only part and does cardio the whole time. Atleast I think she does. I really can't be certain cause they won't let me up there no matter how much I beg HA

U heard it here b4- abs are made in the kitchen. And 200 situps a day?? I only do 1 situp per day- when I wake up and get outta bed. Use that 20 mins ur using for ab work and do some HIIT cardio instead until u can see 6 abs clearly, then it's time to work on them

This. I'm not a believer in ab work, you hit your core with pretty much every movement you do in the gym.

Thanks for the help guys. I realized that major cuts are made in the kitchen and I have recently dialed in my diet near perfect and am cutting quite efficiently. I wanted core exercises cause I figured hey it's a muscle so I should probably work it but maybe I'll take that time and focus more on cardio. Im currently doing 20 min(30 including warm up and cool down) of HIIT cardio 4 days a week. Should I up it or just keep at it, make sure my diet stays proper and be patient for once?

Some interesting views here. I've always been a believer in doing ab work. I have always believed in training them once a week like any other muscle I train. But....... I never really had any decent abs
This would be down to my diet though. I had good knowledge of the training part of bodybuilding, but not so on the nutrition part. I hope I've corrected this now, thanks mostly to the many great threads on here. I'm returning to bodybuilding training after a long time off ( 6yrs +). I have a LOT of work to do. Back on topic, Would a couple of good basic ab exercises from day one not be best then???? I was thinking of something like 2 sets of crunches to failure (done very strict and deliberate) followed by 2 sets of leg raises to failure. The leg raises I would do involve lying on your back on a bench, grab hold of something behind your head, bring your legs up straight toes pointing at ceiling, then keeping your legs in this position raise up your hips as if you are trying to touch the ceiling with your toes, then lower and repeat. Burns like f&%k1ng hell!!!
But.... as some of you have said, your abs get a lot of work from the other exercises you do........

If the abs are trained every day how on earth do they recover?
