    Who here does front squats?

What kind of weight do you put up...I do 225-260 and go down all the way past parallel like Ronnie.

I only go parrell for fronts, I lack confidence in them and just do them every few weeks to alternate from ordinary squats

80odd kg for me,10-15 reps thats mabey 180lbs?

i can actually lift far more but i dont have the confidence in them. . . . .

personally i swap for regular squats every few weeks

be careful and start with a low weight, it can take a while to get used to it

Razr, wow you're front squatting a lot of weight there! I normally don't go above 225 lb on front squats (Note: I can do about 12 reps w/ 315 lbs on reg squats, going slightly below parallel) because my front delts can't hold the weight and I begin to arc my back (which sets me up for injury). Are you doing these free weight or machine? I've found that I'm able to do more weight on smith machine since my delts can hold more.

I do em' all the time, but don't go heavy at all. Are you doing 225-260 for reps?

I think the most I've done was 185lbs and can't remember the reps... but I try to go ass to floor as I feel the front squat allows for that moreso than a typical barbell squat.

I know I can front squat more weight, but I am limited by my delts/wrists with the somewhat awkward barbell position.

i do front squat like once a month but usually do lower weight high reps...like no more than 185 as deep as i can for 15-20 reps...that burns the shit out of them for me...i love it...

I do them. I can't deal with the pain and discomfort of having the bar across my delts & traps.

Nice...you're front delts must be tougher than mine. If I go above 225 lbs on front squat my front delts start bitching at me like you're gf on her period! lol

I was going to try them today (have never done it) but I bitched out, did a few with just the bar and didn't feel comfortable! Didn't help that I did shoulders yesterday as well! Anyone know of a good YouTube vid, with good form ans how to hold the bar?

Its the same comfort lvl for me front or rear....when I started doing them I would wrap a gym towel around the bar where it touches my delts, then behind my neck and then on the other side..Kept everything tight and steady.

Yeah I do them. It's kind of an ego-killer haha. Especially since I go ass to grass always. The weight I do for these are much lower than my back squat. I've front squatted 320. Not big on doing them for reps as I heard the smaller muscles in your wrists and shoulders will make you lose stabilization earlier than your legs do for high reps.

I work up to about the same weights bro. I used to go heavier until I had my back fused. Now I do them on the Smith-machine. Sometimes I'll put my feet forward to hit my hams more.

I started doing a few weeks ago, 155lbs with clean grip (straps method due a lack of wrist flexibility)

Squat Enthusiast checking in. Prefer Back Squats>Front Squats. On front squats the bar always chokes me out and i feel like I'm working out abs instead of legs trying to balance the bar and keep it from slipping off.

I hit front squat pretty regularly. The most I've ever put up is 315 ass to heels.

Right now, I use 'em as a warm-up to regular squats... so I hardly ever go past 225 ass to heels.

Here's a vid of me front-squatting 275 lbs ass to heels.

I don't usually use a belt or knee wraps on this lift, tho I did for this video. Can't remember why though.

Who said anything about doing them as opposed to rear squats?

That's like asking 'what's the benefit of doing incline bench press as opposed to flat bench press'. It's about stimulating growth mate.

I got ya, might have to try them on my next legs day.

I'm only doing 95-100lbs, typcially 20 reps ATG 4 sets. Can't wait to do a hell of a lot more lol being 6'2" has its disadvatanges. lol

I've tried these but honestly can't get the form down, I think I have a flexibility problem because holding the bar with elbows outfront kills my wrists and I feel like I'm choking myself. I use more energy stabilizing with shoulders, chest, abs, than I do actually hitting the quads. There is this beast in my gym that I've seen do 405 fronts, but he actually crosses his arms over the bar, think I might start doing that because he faces the same flexibility problem due to his massive-ass shoulders. Definitely going to see if I can match the form in the video above.

i stick with 225 and shoot for 12-15 rep range, any weight heavier then that is just a huge strain on the shudders for me

I do front squats for 80kg only a small guy here but like others say it's incredibly uncomfortable and i can only last about 2 sets i like them because they focus on your core more and plus they seem to make me feel stronger on back squats after doing them

Same thing as most of you guys, I only do front squats about every 6 weeks or so to change it up, it puts such a strain on my shoulders that it is hard to keep myself steady, I should really do them more, that is the only way to truly improve.

Do front squats provide a more "functional" strength?

when I was a football jock we only did back squats. Somehow now that I have started doing front squats I think that my high school training would have been more effective doing front squats.
