I like dumbbells alot more. I can do alot more weight on incline with them, i was told it was because i have very wide shoulders and can handle the stretch with alot of weight. I do bar every other time i do chest because there are alot of benefits from it and i dont want to do 300 with dumbbells and 150 on bar lol.

why would you not use both?...ive been lifting for years and i do both simply for variety...obviously you can go way heavyer with a barbell so thats why it shouldent be compleatly ignored...but i do agree do whatever feel right for you...

I tend to be stronger with a barbell. But I seem to get a much better workout from dumbells. A mentioned above though, I try to vary my exercises.

It's best to use both and vary your workouts at least a little. That said, I tend to stick to db press more often, as i feel safer using them when I don't have a spotter.

I agree that you shouldn't go crazy with the weight by yourself, but sometimes I just want to lift as heavy as I can and not feel like I have to hold back just because my workout partner can't be bothered to show up. I just feel like I can go as heavy as possible without worrying about dropping a bar on myself. It all boils down to personal preference though.

I rotate them. I feel that DB gives a better stretch n contraction and helps to shape the pecs nicely. BB is more about increasing stregnth and adding size. When rotating you get the best of both worlds IME.

I tend to use both. The bar on a smith machine if no spotter so can go heavy as I want. I like dumbells press but not at high weight due to racking and unracking tends to spend to much energy that I would rather put into the exercise.
