Agreed just saying they paved the way. (But a few of Pantera's songs I can't let slide though my MP3 player.)

    Hm

Between the Buried and Me are sick. Flawless live, too.

As for Metallica...Yes they did influence pretty much everyone who plays heavy guitar. If not, then they influenced the people that influenced them. That being said, notice how every comment is "These bands aren't doing anything back like Metallica DID in their day". Past tense. They should have quit after Black Album, or maybe Load. Reload and anything since is a joke. They created the soundscape we hear now, but they reduced themselves to a laughing stock.

And the new material is almost as bad as St.Anger in my opinion, it's so contrived and you can tell they're trying their absolute hardest to be "Metal" again. The instrumental section is ass, sounds like they took any riff they could possibly creat and latched them all together. "Hey guys, we can still play metal". Eesh. The solos are rehashed 80's era solos too.

That being said, I am a performing guitar player and musician (it's my career), and I picked up a guitar in the first place to play metallica. But I personally don't understand how anyone could enjoy anything they've put out in the last 10 years...they sound like a band mocking metallica
