Sounds like you have worked for one of the same companies as me. The quickest way to get a promotion is to screw up. Crane operator of 15 years causes over 1m in damages to an airplane and next week becomes a Supervisor. No joke. Fork lift driver runs into airplane mid section causing $$$ damage, 1 month later he gets promoted to supervisor. I know many stories like this all true.
