    Fish and Fat Loss

I have read in a lot of places that eating fish aids in fat loss. I always knew how healthy it is for you to eat it, so I made sure to incorporate it into my diet. Since then I have leaned out considerably. Now I know the diet itself plays a huge role in this, but since adding in the fish, I have seen a definite difference. Is there any truth to this, or just the placebo effect?

Fish is generally a great source of protein and contains alot of healthy fats too. It is a great food to consume while cutting.

Eating fish is healthy because of the essential fatty acids we get from it. "Essential" meaning our bodies cannot produce it so we can only get them through the foods we eat. Our bodies need fat in our diet to some extent..Without them our bodies can not function to it's full potential...

If we have too little fats in our diet it will make it more difficult to drop fat because our body will hold on to what little it has. Too many fats in our diet is unhealthy as well.

So in a sense, it can help somewhat if taken in the right amounts. But remember, a fat is a fat and whether it be so called a "Healthy fat (Essential fatty acid)" or an unhealthy fat there is still 10 calories in 1 gram of fat... So if you eat salmon all day long it is not really going to be that healthy because salmon is high in fat which means you will be taking in WAY too many calories plus too many fat calories as well...

My diet before my Hawaii trip was talapia three times a day five days a week and I sure seemed to make better fat loss progress then compared to now which uses different sources of protein primarily. Don't know if that proves anything other than I'm a year older and it's harder to accomplish anything.

Also, keep in mind it depends on what type of fish you are eating...For instance, salmon is good for us because of the essential fatty acids but it a high fatty fish which means it has a lot of calories...Fish could also help in fat loss also due to the low fat % to protein ratio....For instance, if you are eating orange roughy or tilapia like tbody66 these fish have a very low fat %, pretty much equal to chicken...SO therefore, you could be losing weight from eating fish because it's a fish that doesn't have a high fat percentage which equals fewer calories in your diet...

I agree that fish is great for you, but i dont buy into eating a lot of it will hinder your diet. I have had friends eat nothing but fish on their diets and lost a ton of weight. One friend, who actually only ate salmon. To get fat from fish, or increase bf%, you're talking a shit load of fish. There are downsides to eating anything in excess. You probably would get sick from it before you would start putting on weight.

The reason we build bf, is due to our triglycerides. The calories we eat that are not burned, become triglycerides. These flow through our blood and attach to fat cells for storage. The more calories we consume, the more fat cells we increase.

Salmon oil is like you said, a good omega-3 fatty acid source. This oil contains docosahexaenoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid. This reduces the amount of triglycerides in the blood, which in turn, increases the levels of high-density lipoproteins, which aid to transport fatty substances out of the body. There are many studies that show by increasing intake of omega-3 fatty acids, your blood sugar level will decrease and your body fat will as well.

I understand that, but believe me it can 100% make you fat...It doesn't matter if it's high in fat or not, it's high in calories. Again, fish isn't the only foods that are a good source of healthy fats...Avocados are also a great source of healthy fats but eat 3 a day and see what will happen...You will gain weight and you will increase fat.

You have to take a look at someone's overall diet to be able to determine something...Portion sizes, what and when they ate it....Maybe he ate 2 oz salmon portion sizes then that would make sense...Or maybe he ate it with no carbs at night..I don't know...

But the fact remains it does not matter if it's healthy fats, you will 100% get fat from eating too many "healthy" fats...Pros will eat salmon in off season to put on weight, you will never see a pro eating salmon during contest prep I can guarantee that...

ANYTHING can hinder your diet...Doesn't matter if it is healthy or not...........If you ate 100 lbs of chicken breasts a day it would hinder your diet....Why? Too many calories, it's just common sense
