It reminds me of a Darkthrone album artwork from the 90's.

I agree, when I travel Europe other than seeing some of main historical sights
I stay out of the cities. The villages are old Europe still to this day. Great food, great people, strong culture, real Europe.

Italy was suppose to be next but I'm going to wait a few years until things calm down a little. I think instead I'm hitting up south east Asia this summer or fall.

Indeed in a globalized west there is nothing new to see in bigger city centers.

Not sure what you mean by things calming down (earthquakes?) unless you look like an import you will be welcome, just avoid to go anywhere south of Rome.

I think some of the big cities has its charms also:
London and Paris each has their sights,
Stockholm is quite beautiful, Copenhagen has some sights as well, especially in the "Fristaden" (Free State/Free City) where apart from the drugs you also got some nice architecture. Amsterdam I only remember from when I was little, liked its canals and sights as well, and Red Light District is quite the headspin as well.
I'll take some pics of our own little Oslo as well, that church was one of the lesser ones. We really don't have something as spectacular as Notre Dame,
but in Oslo the oldest church is from around the mid 900AD, the structure as it now stands being from around 1200AD.
I'll see if I can visit it soon and share some pics.

I just mean Europe in general until policital unrest dies down. I was In Frankfort Airport when the Brussels bombing happened on March 22nd or 23rd of last year. Luckily I was already on the plane and heading back home. When we landed I learned what happened. I dropped a loaf everytime I heard a loud sound waiting on getting picked up at the air port...lol

I spend a day in London my first trip to Europe. I have to admit it was aw inspiring to see the city that was once the "capital of the world" at one time.

I've been reading, "A history of the English speaking peoples" by Winston Churchill lately. I haven't been able to put it down. I'm only on Volume One but so far it's superb and nobody writes like Churchill. I think in a thousand years, the British empire will be studied as intensely as Rome is now. I read a smaller book by Neil's Fergueson about the Empire, I have a new prospective on just how magnificent the empire was. The parallels between the fall of Rome and the world after and the decay of the British Empire and the world after are almost shocking similar.
