Many (almost all major) insurance companies factor credit history for better rates on home/car/etc... insurance.
If you don't have a home, you need credit for an apartment, unless you want to live in the ghetto.
Cell phone service providers require credit checks.
Utility companies now use credit history to determine how much deposit you need to leave.
The list goes on and on.
I personally use credit to gain access to 0% deals on credit cards that give me frequent flyer miles. So in my case, without credit I could never save 1000's per year on flights.
But yeah, having no credit is much better than having bad credit.
