I didn’t have the most muscle and wasn’t the leanest but I posed best, smiled the most and was confident. ‘Personality’ counts for quite a bit I think.
I was competing in Masters (over 40) but I don’t know Masters age in the States, you might be competing agains guys 10 years younger.
You need broad shoulders and a small waist or, at least give that illusion. I’d be working on delts, chest (upper particularly) and lats.
Go to a show or 2 and check out the Masters categories and also the normal physique guys who generally pose much better.
You could compete next year, not sure what your cycling plans are though. Committing to a show focuses the mind.
BTW, I remember how you used to look, hats off to you.
