Yes, the SARS strains are very different than influenza, but this virus is likely to behave in the exact same fashion regarding mutation, and if anything will only become more virulent. It’s why flu vaccines don’t have a great track record; they’re always based on a “best guess” for strain and mutation.
So our options are either A: do what we do for the flu (advise at risk to stay home, lock down nursing homes, etc.) or B: keep doing this current stupid bullshit in perpetuity.
I personally prefer the option that at least leaves the choice to the individual, rather than making for compulsory nonsense in the hope of avoiding consequences.
