    The Cemetery and its Welcome

Lately a little child, friend of my daughter, died from a rare brain cancer.
    She was only 2yo.

Last month, I moved within Rome remaining always in downtown but getting closer to the city's monumental cemetery.

A few days ago, I went into the cemetery at night to read and contemplate the stars since I was feeling very sad, without energies.

I laid on a ground crypt with the photo of the buried closed to my head and I felt better after a while.
I liked the peace I found there.

What is your favourite place when you feel down, if any?

Not a Cemetery, those places scare me.

But if I am down or feel like escaping somewhere I will usually grab a fishing pole and some bait and head to the country and fish.

I sometimes go to the cemetery as well and visit my grandas grave .I just like being out away from all the built up areas like the field or fishing or something . Sitting on the loch on a sunny day .

My family is from a very small isolated rural town. 5 generation born and raised there. Last time I was in the cemetery for my great grandpas funeral my dad and I walked around and found all our relation that had died there. We often joke that there is more family in the ground there than alive. It was thought provoking to see the graves of almost my entire family from when they first migrated to this country over 100 years ago until now.

If this is true first off let me say my condolences. Sad when life of an innocent is taken.

I am not sure where I feel the most peace. I know where I feel the most at home and it's not in the US.

I think for me it is not really where I am but who I am with to feel at peace.

You are a lucky man, I wish to own such a property someday.
Till that day, I can only remember my catamaran hidden in a wood on a peak of a mountain close to Rome.

Thank you, even though said from someone who is for cruelty on animals, it is weird to say the least!

Unfortunately, she seemed to recover well after the surgery but a few weeks later she had fallen into a coma and she died the day after.

??? What cruelty to animals? If you are speaking of the human animal only when they deserve it. I have NEVER hurt an animal but I am not an animal/dog lover. I put people before pets. There is a HUGE difference. Im not a tree huger but I dont want to see our rain forest destroyed either. I dont smoke but I stand up for smokers rights. Im not gay but I believe in free choice and gay rights.

See the difference? Dont fall into the same mindset as a few others who have false perceptions about certain members due to pre judging them/us due to one or two statements or disagreement. If we all did that we would all (you included) probably be banned by now. LOL

You seem to forget how I have stuck up for you (your rights) on threads in the past even if I didn't agree with you 100% it is/was still your choice/opinion. http://forums.steroid.com/showpost.p...&postcount=125
Im quite sure this was not the only time.

Again VERY sorry to hear the sad news. She never got a chance to experience life. At least your young daughter is young enough that she will recover from the loss easily.

My daughter was 2 1/2 when her mother died but he hardly knew her at the time so she never really noticed her passing luckily.

Watching nature. I went for a walk the other day. The trail followed a river on one side and mountains on the other. I watched a young racoon try to sip water from the river for an hour. Each time it approached the water 2 swans, 8 ducks, and 5 geese swam up to it and went nuts. Poor fella. I was rootin for him lol.

Ive been thinking more about this since my post also and as stated before, it's not really any one place.

When my first wife died I took my 2yr old daughter and ventured out on a 2 month road trip from Washington state visiting friend in Oregon, Nevada, New Mexico then drove through and spent time at Yellow Stone. It was a good distraction and gave me more time to reflect on things and spend 24/7 with my daughter.

When the 2nd wife died (3 years divorced but still close) my daughter was much older, 13. She mostly confided in her friends and was in school at the time so it was a good distraction for her. I also got her started seeing a counselor for a while.

I did not have the luxury to take off right away on a road trip but 2 months later I made my first trip to Thailand. That was the beginning of the end. Anyone who has been there knows what I mean.

For me it's being able to get away and be with people, make new memories.

Either in the woods(hunting) or on a lake or river(fishing). I have been out in some nasty duck hunting weather same with bow hunting but I find it very calming. Sitting up in a deer stand and being there when the woods wakes up is amazing.

Either that or point my bike out west and ride deeper into the great plains is pretty amazing.

Actually I wanted to achieve the same with my bikes but every time I was riding one of them I had to make challenges. So, I really never experienced that feeling.

Perhaps, I need to buy a H.D. to be forced to go slowly enjoing the country side.
