    Abs

are ab exercises necessary? talkin to one of the senior guys at the gym yesterday (and this guy as the best abs ive ever seen in person), anyway he credits his ab development to heavy deadlifts. just curious to see what works for you guys.

I get much more definition from heavy deads then I do from crunches, roman chair, etc.

*note I still do plenty of ab work, but seem to get more out of deads.

Well i would have to say that training Abs is essential to building a strong core you dont need to do thousands of sit ups or crunches but planks and swiss ball training saved my back and i did tones of deadlifts over the years and all they did for me was cause me to have a bad back at least in an X ray. So definatly train your abdominal muscle. looking huge doesn't mean all your small supporting muscles are strong as i found out.

I haven't trained my abs in about 3-4 months and they look way better than they did when I used to train them. IMO I think about 90% of abs are just your diet in general and the rest is from deads, squats, etc...

Even if you look at the routines of some of the pro bodybuilders a lot of times the only ab exercises they do are simple things like crunches and reverse crunches, none of the stupid fancy machine shit that you see 1/2 the gym doing

I don't do abs, or very seldom. Its more of a maintenance muscle. If you have a clean diet and low BF %, don't hold too much sodium or bloat then your abs will look good. Especially if you have been training Back & Legs hard.

I have been trying to figure out this as well. I have heard all the myths about abs. You can train them everyday, theyre muscles just like your chest and back and need rest as well, train them once/twice/week, whatever.

Ive been doing circuit training for the past few weeks cause Im so busy at work I can only spend so much time in the gym lately. I have been doing only 3 sets alternating with crunches, the roman chair, and cable crunches 4-5 days a week.

Its nothing crazy but cause my diet and cardio are where they should be, I do not feel like I have do change anything......jmo...
