If you have undergone puberty the Pineal gland does nothing.

The pineal gland (also called the pineal body, epiphysis cerebri, epiphysis or the "third eye") is a small endocrine gland in the vertebrate brain. It produces the serotonin derivative melatonin, a hormone that affects the modulation of wake/sleep patterns and seasonal functions
The function(s) of melatonin in humans is not clear; it is commonly prescribed for the treatment of circadian rhythm sleep disorders.
The pineal gland also contains the necessary precursors and enzymes for the secretion of dimethyltryptamine[15], although there is no evidence for this occurring in vivo.
The human pineal gland grows in size until about 1–2 years of age, remaining stable thereafter,[16][17] although its weight increases gradually from puberty onwards.[18][19] The abundant melatonin levels in children are believed to inhibit sexual development, and pineal tumors have been linked with precocious puberty. When puberty arrives, melatonin production is reduced. Calcification of the pineal gland is typical in adults.
The secretory activity of the pineal gland is only relatively understood. Historically, its location deep in the brain suggested to philosophers that it possessed particular importance. This combination led to its being a "mystery" gland with myth, superstition and occult theories surrounding its perceived function.
It seems that it secretes Melatonin, that governs human circadian rhythms? Possibly inducing sleep without needing darkness to trigger the dark cycle? At least in Wikipedia, I couldn't find where it says it becomes inactive after puberty. Not saying you're wrong. God knows I just read about it.. Seems to me that the song creators bought into the legends of DMT production and dreamlike hallucinations.
Anyhow, regardless of the data behind the inspiration, this song, and every other Meshuggah song on the ObZen album is f'n bad ass!
I was going to make a reference to DMT, but I think this is the wrong board for that.

The Pineal gland was thought to be inactivated and calcify after puberty, due to estrogens influence on the gland.

The pineal gland begins to harden with calcified tissue starting at adolescence. These strange calcified deposits between 3-5 mm are called “brain sand”. There are asymmetrical crystals in the pineal gland that are ‘piezo-electric' - that is, they send out electronic voltage creating EM waves. Whenever a person is exposed to an EMF (electro-magnetic field) such as that of the earth the gland vibrates, sending out EM signals to the rest of the body. When the pineal gland is stimulated geomagnetically it produces alkaloids similar to plant psychedelics. Any strong change in the earth's EMF will produce a rush of psychedelics in our bodies enabling us to be more psychically active in shamanic states (earth/ land receptive).
Wow! Here's some lolz/lulz for ya! We're not going to cite any sources, though. Makes more sense than scientology, however.
