I used to know a guy who would come into the gym I worked at a little drunk, he would do extremely heavy dumbbell shrugs. He told me having a couple beers before working out helped him...I thought this was retarded...
but I have done it a couple times (4-5 years later ha) and find it to actually be good... it gives me energy and also allows me to work through pain easier.. then I hit the sauna...
I AM NOT ADVOCATING THAT ANYONE GET DRUNK AND GO LIFT WEIGHTS, I am simply stating that 1-2 beers before working out (at night, not in the morning) has allowed me to experiment with new perspective in my training.
