as most of you guys will rem, i had to put one of my dogs to sleep afew back. my other dalmatian has been doing badly since and is missing her very badly so ive decided to adopt another mate for her from the pound, i spotted this lovely looking white german shep.
anyone with much germ shep experience?

Never had one. But they are supposed to be very smart dogs.

yeah i think he'd be a great match for lady's liveliness, thats her on the right and RIP kes on the left. (note the ravaged back yard lol)

very nice. My buddy has a 1 yr. old shep. I saw that thing jump into the back of his Toyata Tundra with the tailgate up and truck was on an incline. They are quite athletic breed. Good for u for the rescue, got any backgroound on the shep?

contacted the shelter today and they wont re-home if a dog cant live in the house!!
never heard as much crap in my life, ive kept dogs since i was a child and none of them lived indoors. wtf is wrong with a large shed and plenty of bedding?!

Dogs are the next child replacement. Just tell them you will move the kid outside (if you had one) and let the dog stay in their room. I'm sure they would be OK with that.
It's nice to see you do have limits to the whole dog is like your kid thing.Agreed, STUPID to have a rule the dog has to be indoors. What dog would want that vs being able to be outside?

lots of experiance w germans here, including vet tech classes/trainer/ previous owner & shelter worker...
sorry to say that I agree with the shelters decidion. alot of shelter pups end up back at shelters, so they have VERY strick guidlines to follow the stat show less of a chance for pups to return, also they dont know you so the chance (in their eyes) of a dog living out side only, of becoming neglected is large.

yeah i understand that, but to say a dog must live indoors is just absolutely ridiculous. i like my animals but i also like my hygiene. thanks, i'll prob look to rescue privately now as red tape seems to prevent genuine ppl aswell as the assholes who help create it.pretty pup! awsome that you decided to go the adopt route!

No, that's the problem with the internet, no way to really be sure what is implied. Some of us just have poor grammar and dont articulate things as well as others. Also our own current mind set and emotions usually set the tone more than implied.
I hope it works out with the new dog and you can work around the idiotic rule.

Sorry to hear this Dec about the outdoor/indoor rule. I could argue both sides. The pity is that with someone like you? You would take care of your dog probably better than most people whether in or outside. Quite honestly? I would LOVE to leave my dog outside all day long. He drives me CRAZY! I think I will ship him over to you! He would tear up that yard like no tomorrow. And love every single bit of it.
I know not exactly what you want to hear right now but sometimes things are meant to be. Ya never know. Ya just never know. The Shepherd might not have been the dog you thought he was. The right one will come along. Keep your chin up.

Maybe a good thing, I have heard that a lot of sheps have problems with hind legs/hips..I know you dont want to get into another dog that will cost you money to keep healthy. You will find another one easily, there are so many in need of a good home...

Nice. Shepherds are smart and get bored easily, they need a lot of activity and benefit heavily from training. They form very strong bonds with their owners and unless controlled could end up protecting you when you dont need it. Also watch them around kids, as they might try to herd the children and inadvertently hurt one of them.
Shepherds are awesome.

German Shepherds can be trained to do just about anything. The one "problem" they can run into is ear infections if you let them swim in lakes too much. Also watch for their hips.

i know mate, i sent a well worded email to their head office, i think its disgraceful tbh.
they do home checks so would see that my other dog has its shed to live in, in the back yard. i was told i must have it in the house with the door always open so the dog could go in and out as it pleases. never heard such crap in my life. i dont mind the two cats indoors but id never keep a dog inside, to me a dog should have its own access to its own dwelling and it can wander in the garden as it pleases

Alot of breeders are focusing on having too short back legs with the German sheps, which creates hip problems. There are two types of breed standards with them now and it looks like you dodged a bullet. Pretty dog but I can see that one having hip problems. Hope you find the dog your after.

Wow, this sounds like a great place for a crook to work so he can have a list of all the people who have to have their back doors wide open when at night and when they are not at home. Sounds very secure. I think somone needs to sew them due to someone breaking in (walking in) and stealing everything due to their stupid policy.

Well that sounds ridiculous. So your dogs hand outside during the day, have shelter from weather and sleep inside at night..How would they know? Anyways they sound like the department of human services but for dogs. Sounds like a person with an apartment and no back yard is more suitable to be a dog owner...geez..
I'm sure you will find a better place to grab a dog. I dunno,,,bring em some of those vet bills u got stacked up just so they can see how mistreated your animals have been kept...

*interresting tid-bit about this : There was no child or elder protection agencies before animal protection laws. The very first case involving child legal rights and saftey had to be filed under an animal cruelty act...

yeah, crazy the way one door shuts and another so appropriately opens!
i had checked the irish dalmatian club pages the day before and there wasnt any dogs needing re-homed so i was just going to mail them my details to keep me in mind and there was this little guy posted up for adoption!
maybe this fate thing isnt the big load of cack i thought it was
