    Biceps reaching failure very fast

Hoping to find some advice on why my biceps are reaching failure so quick. My routine is Mon-chest, Tuesday- back, shoulders, Wed- legs , Thursday- biceps & triceps, Fri- abs & extra cardio. I train Monday thru Friday because of my job and family. Weekends are for resting and family activities. So now to my issue. After the first or second set of curls my biceps are so pumped I can hardly stand to flex them. I'm not going too heavy and my form is perfect. I have to take at least a 5 to 10 minute rest between sets to wait for the muscles to stop throbbing. I am currently running a cycle of test cyp so I am recovering quickly and the biceps are definitely growing but I have always had this issue ever since I started lifting. It's the only muscle group on my entire body I have this problem with, or is it a problem since they are growing? I just think if I could get in some variety and extra sets my gains would increase. Any advice is appreciated.

    Welcome to the board mate!
Really not sure what you mean. "Failure fast" in my mind = lower # of reps at a given weight than expected due to muscular exhaustion. But you continue on by saying after the first or second set, your "biceps are so pumped I can hardly stand to flex them". So in this context, it sounds like it is not failure, but failure to perform due to a severe pump?
Without knowing which it is, and knowing your routine, it is really hard to tell. So let me run my mouth for a few and see if any of this gets any traction....

I dont' know how many sets you do to failure, but should only be 3 max, imo. I pyramid my sets, the incline being a warm up, and the peak and drop sets are at failure. I get some severe pumps too, but only when I'm dropping. My lowest weight is 55lbs and failure is around 15 reps or so, after hitting 65 and 75lbs, one arm concentration while sitting. the other thought too is that maybe you should change up between one arm and two arm curls. and possibly some two arm reverse curls. and the other thought is that maybe two sets is all you need, depending on the proportions of your physique? Finally, changing when you do curls in your daily program may help as well. If you wait til the end of your program to do your curls, then maybe if you switch to an earlier slot may help things. or visa versa?

    just some thoughts....

Failure due to the pump I am getting. Poor choice of context for the topic. Reverse curls are easier for me but I just don't hit the bicep like I do with preacher curls or even hammer curls. Those are some good suggestions though and I appreciate the quick response. I bought some c4 extreme tonight to see if it will give me a little more longevity during my sessions. As far as build I am 6ft 300lbs with around 20% bf. My diet could use some work but I am also not training to get lean. I just got back into the gym 10 weeks ago and have actually gained 10lbs but lost 2 inches off my waist so it's going well. Thanks to my Doc who prescribed me the test. I have found some great info within this forum and will continue to as I advance with my training.

    got it!

since the problem is the pump, then i'd probably avoid creatine and arginine and related products if it bugs you that much.

sounds like you're built like a fireplug. 300lbs/20%BF/6' is a pretty solid "fireplug". You dont' even really need to gain any more. Just define what you have, add some vascularity and drop some bf% and you should be impressive.

    How's your cardio?

    And how old are you?

Cardio needs improvement. I have only been doing 30 min after lifting. I am 34 yrs old. GNC's return policy is pretty loose so I won't have a problem returning the c4. I have always wanted to see what i would uncover if got my bf down low enough. I am gonna start to focus on the cardio and cleaning up my diet now that you have my wheels turning.

For whatever its worth I have the same problem running large doses of Test C.

Up till about 2 wks ago I was running a maintenance dose of TestC with a gorrilla dose of MastA and was not having the problems, however now that I have dropped the Mast and increased the TestC ( have only been running C so thats the reason I mention C though I doubt the ester is a factor) the pumps have been really interfearing with bicep workouts, and like you its only biceps where the pump is so intolerable. However I am also running a lot of Creatine so maybe its the combination of the two and dropping the creatine will do as much good as lowering the Test.
