I used to be on the juice but have been off it for years now. This summer I really got into golf. and got down to a 5 handicap. Golf is over for the winter and im getting back into the gym. Anybody lift and golf out there?

I play a lot of golf. I was captain of the golf team back in high school. I am a ***** when it comes to weather though, so I don't play at all during the winter. My GSGA handicap was a .3 or .4 this year.

those are some good handicaps fellas
best i've ever got down to would be a 10
playin only a few times a year, being 42, and lifting fairly heavy weight sure shortens and stiffens up the swing
this is the time of year for it here in florida june thru september not so much FOR MELast edited by zaggahamma; 01-19-2012 at 03:34 PM.

I should move to florida for the winter. I see them selling houses on the auction channel all the time for cheap as hell.

I like golf, but you gotta play enough to keep good and stay good at it, so i just decided to stick with the gym and drop golf for occasional boys days out and a beer in the 19th.

^^ I will chime in here just in case he doesn't return. We had a challenge last year ( might have another one ) and the members competed for 12 weeks for most improved with before/after photos. And MR-FQ320 was one of the contenders and did a FABULOUS job.

I won a long drive contest this summer at a local course. 362 in the fairway. Won a free round of golf and a sleeve of ProV1's. I've always been a long ball hitter, but took a long time to get everything else together. Hitting it further, makes it much more important to control that slice or hook. Ive been playing since I was 8 yrs old

Sweet man! My younger brother played for a college. and is the longest hitter I have ever seen. He used to sign up for long drive contest but would get so nervous in the competitions that he never got one in the fairway. Everyone that I watched he would have won if in the fairway. I probably average 290 I won $40 in a tournament with a long drive of 380 in the fairway but it was downhill with wind behind me and high altitude

damn, just seeing this thread! i love the game, its one of my favorite games to play because of the challenge of each shot to shot. my best handicap was a 5, that was in high school when i played everyday! i will have to try to get this back in my weekly repertoire!

Ya i could see that being a problem. I have been doing yoga to make sure i stay flexible.
I havent been lifting as heavy as i would like yet either tho.
went out today! There are no pins in and the course is technically closed but the head pro wanted to go out so we played.. and i think ive got this game figured out...

I want to get into lifting heavy to build big muscles but stay flexible. best of both worlds right?

this directly affected me in high school. i played football and golf, so i would workout real hard in football training and then have to go right after that to golf practice. i could never get my swing like i wanted to, either i was tight or worn out. i am however, going to get back into it soon!

Best I've got it down to is a 12 handicap. I broke the 80 barrier, which was one of my long time goals. Don't play near as much as I used to, but I definitely noticed an increase in length in my 40's compared to 30's, obviously resulted from lifestyle changes and working out. Probably 30 yards more on the driver alone, and 1 club difference in the fairway.

I am just catching the bug to play golf. I'm no where near good, but I've now taken a few lessons and I'm trying to get to the range at least twice a week.
