best sippin whisky?
Just bought a bottle of Jim beam single barrel... Honestly not too impressed. I wanted to try gentlemen jack but they were out. I hardly ever drink and am not a huge fab of it but want to find a good whisky to just put in a glass with ice and just drink straight on certain nights... Any opinions??

I love Irish Mist, but it's a liquor mate, not a whiskey/bourbon.
If you want a very good and inexpensive whiskey, then Evan Williams is the one for you. Better than Jack hands down, at half the price. No shit.
Jack Daniels is aged around 3 years. Evan Williams is aged 7 years. Most cannot tell the difference.
I can pick up a handle of Evan Williams, 1.75 ltr handle, for between 15 and 18 dollars. Jack costs more in a much smaller bottle.
Serious. Everyone that swears by Jack (I don't) cannot tell the difference.
Now here's what you do. put the bottle in the freezer for a couple of days, THEN start your sipping. Very smooth!

Personally, for many, Johnny Walker is an acquired taste. I was drinking JW and Chevas Regal while I lived in Korea. Years later, at a New Years Eve party, someone had some Chevas Regal and I poured about three fingers in a low ball glass. Barely got it down.
If you like Jack, I'm telling you, get the Evan Williams. You will be in for a surprise

The only jack I have had is the original and I can't drink that straight... I was only going to try gentlemen jack in hopes that it would be smoother and not make me gag lol

actually, all jack is pretty similar. Jack is not a great sipping whiskey, regardless what their marketing department tells you.
if you want an American Whiskey (as opposed to Scotch Whiskey) that is smooth, Crown Royal is a couple of bumps better than Jack/Evan.
And put it in the freezer if you just want to sip on it. 2 days. Pours like syrup and is very smooth going down.
And if you have a sweet tooth, as Kel said, Irish Mist is real nice. Only 70 proof, but real smooth, and if you put it in the freezer for two days, it can be a real treat.

I live about 5 miles from Jack Daniels distillery. Honestly, I can't stand the stuff. Its too heavy, and expensive. George Dickel is just right down the road about 5 miles in the other directions and is another good alternative to Jack. Imho, WAY too much charcoal influence in Jack. But my personal favorite is homemade shine. Easy to get around here, cheap, no fuss, and all American!

So I think at this point I might get a bottle of johnnie walker blue label and a bottle of Irish mist. I like things that taste sweet so I think I might enjoy that Irish mist. Johnnie walker is a scotch whiskey though and I have heard scotch tastes like smoke and dirt or "earthy".

check out bulleit. They have a wiskey or bourbon. Aged 6 to 8 years white oak barrel. Both are good on ice or splash 7up

Bulleit was not impressive. I didn't think so anyways.
I'm a jack drinker. I'll drink the original any time. I prefer single barrel over the original though.
I do NOT like gentleman Jack. Not at all. Way too charcoal-ish for me.
Crown is much better suited to sipping neat though. But of all the bourbons/whiskeys I've tried, nothing mixes with coke the way Jack does. I don't know what it is.

I was a big whisky drinker. When i was younger I would get shit faced on Jack Daniels. Eventually I became the sophisticated drunk asshole and switched to Johnny Walker Blue. Then I found Mcallan. Mcallan can be expensive but IMO its worth it if you are really slipping and have a cocktail very infrequently. I usually will have one at nice restaurant to sip. Always neat!!!!

I spent years buying and selling premium booze and wines for a living.
Four Roses Single barrel was a good suggestion. Best bang for the buck premium is probably Willett IMO, my coworker liked Eagle Rare for that role.
I prefer Irish myself. Jameson on the shelf, Red Breast 12yr in the cabinet.
Girlfriend drinks Oban 14yr Scotch. It's excellent quality, just not my fav.

Pappy Van Winkle is the one that's all the rage among the trendy idiots. It's overpriced and overrated IMO. Like drinking caramel.

Jameson is very nice quite a sweet tasting whiskey. Jd and honey is really nice it has that inital jd taste without the awful after taste you get when you swallow.

I rarely drink, but on the occasions that I do it's George Dickel or Jack Daniels black...occasionally I'll have a sip of "spring water" of local vintage. But again, I rarely drink.
There are 3 loves in my life: my wife, my English mastiffs, and my weightlifting....Man, my wife gets really pissed when I get the 3 confused...

I'm almost ashamed to admit, but I love crown maple. However if you drink too much of it, your piss will smell like pancakes the next morning. It's kind of amusing

Have you tried any local micro distilleries in your area? There are a lot of people getting into nowadays and maybe that could be an avenue to try.
Some bourbons I like are Knob Creek, Bulliet, Wild Turkey, and a few others.
Scotch: Chevis , Macallan 18, JW Blue (high dollar shyt) , Monkey Shoulder, and others
