What does this have to do with AAS at all? This is something that should be in the lounge or the computer discussion section

safemail encrypts your emails as it sends them and only provides the decryption key to the sender email. Aka, only the email account you send to can read your email. If police try to use a network fishing/sniffing trojan it wont work. Where as with yahoo or such, the police can intercept emails and read them, or hack into your account and read them.

I think the police have significant resources. If just from an employer or common citizen, then should be ok.

Safe-mail claims to keep you safe, but like any good businesses, they may bend at the whim of their governments and give you up.

Lets say they are completely legit and won't give you up under any circumstance. That would be the real function difference between it and Yahoo. Safe-mail still sends your mail in the clear to any recipient, if the recipient is not using PGP, so it's actually a bit more complicated than just picking an email provider that claims they will keep your data confidential. It's just not entirely possible 100% of the time.

Decription of this type is pretty basic stuff for anyone with resources, though it does offer some level of protection. However as far as protecting you from the US gov that would be like keeping your AAS in a safe incase you get raided.

Its simply a web based (TCP/IP) email system, that uses a web interface it is not an OS dependent product. So it will work with Mac/Unix/Windows/etc.

Safe-mail is an encrypted service. Police, businesses, and others interested in intercepting your mail won't easily have access to it, unlike Gmail or Yahoo that actively searches all your emails anyways. That said, I would still use a more discreet service if you plan on doing any questionable activity. Safe-mail is a big provider and more likely to be approached (and comply!) with the Feds in an investigation.

Also, forgive me if I'm wrong, but if you're using a browser with security backholes like Chrome and IE, extensions and tools you might be using could get access to the decrypted data anyways. You really need to go super secret squirrel mode if you're doing anything that nobody needs to know about.

Edit: Shoot, didn't meant to drag up an old thread. It was on the first page, so I didn't even think to check the date. Sorry!
