"belly skin needs surgery to go away"
this topic has actually really irritated me, today at the gym my friend was talking about "getting toned" he is skinny, but has allot of skin? where his fat used to be on his belly, because when he was like 15 he was really fat and started jogging and would only eat 5 carrots a day, he supposedly lost 50 pounds in 2 months, now i was trying to give him advice on how to get rid of it but he claims the only way to get rid of it is to get surgery, i think this is absolute bullsh1t and really want to know if there is an alternative way since he claims the human body cant just get rid of skin.. would having a diet fix this?
or any other suggestions? is surgery the only way?
his stats are
age:17
weight:167
height: 5'7
bf% i believe its 22%

i think he lost the fat way to quick and that’s the side effect. i am fifty now and lost 40 pounds in less than 10 months and my skin is as tight as it was when i was 20. skin needs time to adjust with the body, and eating unhealthy like that won't help either. some exercise and time may do him some good...patience is a virtue!

I lost 65-70lbs over the past 14 months and am also dealing with some loose/excess skin over my stomach. It's very unsightly, and now instead of being fat holding me back from places like the beach, it's this skin.
So I would like to know the answer to this as well. I know it won't be overnight, but does skin eventually bounce back as Bass said? If so, how long in general can a person expect it to take - months? Years?

That sucks! I've been a lot bigger and dropped 50lb before on purose and w a diet. Loose skin is like a stretch mark. can't really make it shrink. I look good standing like no extrra skinn but when I bend over my skin falls I hate it. Maybe sum body wraps w sum kind of cologen sups? Or just fill in the extra skinn with new muscles.?

I lost 70lbs, same problem here. The real question is - over the course of time, does the skin 'bounce back', or are we stuck with this forever?

Just wanted to chime in here...My wife had the same problem 5yrs ago. Not cuz she was fat but cuz we had our 2 kids one after another. After our 2nd child she lost all her weight but was left with a prune bag with stretch marks on her belly. Her being a spin instructor and being in the gym everyday hated it. We visited a few doctors and all told her the same thing...either gain some weight to fill in the loose skin or hav a tummy tuck. For her gaining weight is not an option so we opted for surgery. They got rid of all the loose skin and u could clearly see her 6 pack again like 2 weeks after the surgery BUT she was left with a scar from hip to hip and still had some stretch marks. IMO i hate the scar i think it looks terrible and the surgery was a big risk but shes perfectly happy now cuz the muscles on her stomach are defined. But i guess to each his own.
Pro's- No more loose skin
Con's- You can die from surgery,Big scar and they wont be able to get rid of all stretch marks.

i still have 20 pounds to go, the skin around my belly is about 3/4" thick, but still looks snug, not sure how it'll look when i hit single digits body fat %! i am loosing the fat really slow at this point and being consistent with abs exercises, i don't care if it takes another two years to get rid the remaining fat as longs as i don't end up with loose skin. i think to avoid this side effect you need to lose the fat slowly. also genetics have allot to do with it. I’ve seen surgeries on youtube, disgusting, and even more disgusting looking at the scars…unfortunately it’s the price we pay for being stupid getting fat.
