This was unfortunate. When I first saw the title on CNN I thought it was because of no spotter, then read he had several. Very sad indeed.

RIP to him and all his loved ones

For heavy bench I always prefer the squat rack for added safety. Anything else is a risk not worth taking.

RIP for the guy and for one linked in first post.
Sad but that's life, bad spotter/too much ego and you get what's to come, sad but true.
Be smart about your weights, ways of lifting and who you trust your life to at that one moment, it could be one and the last one you ever have

People at gyms should drop the ego's, really, if I went to the gym I couldn't care less how much one lifts, I have better things to worry and think about, I would be there to get my work out and leave.
I lift alone in my own apartment using a rack, many times I experienced times when I couldn't lift the weight back up and it landed on the rack not my body.
D'oh. Too many stupids walking around, it's an epidemic.

RIP tragic.
I am baffled that people continue doing suicide group knowing this is a possibility. All risk and no reward, just stupid.
