I built mine and have an emachine at work. Its like driving a bmw at night and then switching to a Le car. My comp here at home is so fast its sick, I get to work and it lags and hangs, its just terrible

I have had great success with people who build them on EBAY. You have to make sure you are dealing with a legit person but you cannot beat the quality or price. I have tried going to pricewatch.com to build equivalents and its not possible. These guys much be getting a deal straight from China or are in China but anyway it is the way to go:
Pentium 3.4ghz
2GB Ram
240gb HD (two 120')
DVD drive
DVD burner
ATI All in Wonder 9800 pro 128MB
Could not be happier.

I've got 3 that I built networked in my house. The one I'm on now I built 14 months ago and has an athalon 2100b overclocked to 1900. Got good RAM and video card which I also have overclocked. My Asus A7N8X Delux mb is still capable of the latest cpu with a bios upgrade. For a person with little to spend I don't see much difference between a Compaq, Dell, Gateway, etc. low end and Emachine. They all use cheap*ss parts with integrated video, not enough memory, etc. I actually had 2 Emachines. Never any trouble. One I sold to a co-worker and it's still going strong after 6 years. The other was my first computer that I burned up by over clocking and even that held up for a year with all the tweaking and sh*t.

Why would you get a dual processor????
Unless you are running cad, or sql........ there is no need....
the bus still slowes everything down......
multi threading is seen as dual processors.....
and you need 2000, or 2003 server to really use the extra processor..

my comp at home is;
3ghz/ht intel on a 865 intel board
1024 ram ddr
80gb sata drive
soundblaster audigy plat card
geforce 5900 ultra 256mg vga
I bought all the tweaks so I dont tweak or over clock, its pointless for me. I love video games so I wanted a computer that would play them flawless, never studder or freeze. I am very happy with it, I reformat about every 2 months keep it clean.

Many People have complained in the past that Emachines made poor quality comps. This was true several years ago, however I think they are under new ownership now. I think they were bought out by IBM or Gateway. The new ones are supposed to be very reliableand have been greatly improved. My comp is an Emachine and (knock on wood) I've had no problems with it. I got it about 6 months ago. Mine has an Athlon 3000+ chip, 160GB hard drive, and 512 ROM.
