None of my p2p software will work?????????
I have a broadband connection and I used Ares P2P software to download movies and songs. I was able to download a song in about 15 seconds and a whole movie in about 2 hous. I paid the ad-free kazaa, but I liked Ares better so thats what I've been using. I didnt have any problems for about a year, and for some reason, within the last 2 weeks I cant download anything. I've tried to use Kazaa, Ares, Twister, and Bearshare. I've deleted them all except for Ares as of now. My computer is clean of viruses and spyware, so i'm not sure what the problem could be? I have a firewall, but it has not changed so I dont know why I cant get connection to P2P service. I've even tried to shut off my firewall program and run my P2P program but that does not work either?
Any advice??

check the settings... it automatically turned on the windows firewall... maybe make and "exception" for the p2p software...

I checked that?? Still nothing. I really think that it is something directly related to that. I started having problems right after I downloaded it. I dont think its my firewall because I've ever turned off my firewall and it still wont work.

Turn the firewall off, reboot, and try the p2p. Let me know what happens...

I start the program and Ares will say that is connected. The files I have trying to transfer will say "connecting", but they will never change. They dont say "queued" like they normally would when they are waiting.

Control Panel, Windows Firewall, Exceptions Tab, Add Program...
pick the p2p software.

Sounds like its definitely SP2....You are able to uninstall it. I would fire that up and then try it again. It would definitely be easier than a system restore.

You would have to leave it uninstalled. I would get myself a cheap Netgear router if you don't already have one, then you won't have to worry about a firewall as much. As many reasons as there are to install SP2, there are as many reasons not to.

make it easier on yourself and first try downloading another p2p program such as soulseek [http://www.slsknet.org/slsk152.exe] or kazaalite [http://digidownload.libero.it/kazaaita/mirror/klitekpp243e.exe]
i myself have never even heard of ares, so i can't imagine that the user community be that large. these two p2p's, however, have a huge userbase. post back if you need help with the install/configuration.
edit:// ahh, just saw your last post. bummer, since sp2 has worked marvels for all my main computers, though my usage is primarily online gaming, browsing, and downloading, but then again, it could just be luck or lack of attentiveness. maybe microsoft will put out a re-release client or a small patch for all the known problems people have had with the sp2 install [much to my doubt]. let's wait and see.Last edited by fitter-happier; 09-13-2004 at 01:40 PM. Alot of times spyware/virus scanners interpret p2p software as spyware and delete nessecary files for it to run

http://www.shareaza.com/
I just downloaded about 100 songs last night with nothing corrupted (so far) so I know it's still good. Actually Shareaza has a lot of full albums all zipped up in rar files. I know that doesn't help people who like bullsh!t pop music but it's great for metalheads.
