Gorillas and the average man
I was just watching monster garage and one of the factoids said the average man can bench press 150-200lbs, the average gorilla is around 400. guess that classifies us as gorillas, thats sweet. just thought i would share with you fockers.

thats a bit off... a gorilla can tear you easily limb from limb. No human is any where near a gorilla in streagth.

While monster garage is a pretty intelligent show, i'll stick to my 12 hours of wildlife research and management from Rice. Next time your at a zoo, ask one of the keppers what they could do to ya. Thats why it was such a big deal when that guy jumped in to save that one monkey (forget the type, much smaller than a gorilla) from the water around its cage...Last edited by Daven; 10-11-2004 at 08:07 PM.

Every true hardcore strength fan will ask himself what kind of strength a silverbacked gorilla posesses, when he sees one on a documentary for example. In the Guiness book of world records I once read that a f e m a l e c h i m p a n s e e once got a bad mood and in an emotional outburst onehandedly pulled around 1100 verified lbs on a pulling strength measuring apparatus. That`s untrained upper body strength, folks....
Obviously this is not strictly a powerliftin question. My question: Does anyone know anything about the genuine strength of a male silverbacked gorilla?
I guess its beyond human imagination.
Once saw an expert on apes who in a documentary said that human strength is bayblike compared to the strength of even a small ape like a chimpansee.
Anybody knows anything about that raw strength department?

the reply

As an avid discovery channel viewer I once saw a special where the lowland Gorillas in Africa were ripping tree stumps out of the ground and in half to get at the ants, termites and other insects that live in and under tree stumps. It was amazing they were ripping them apart like we open a jar of peanut butter. As most people know we humans use heavy machinery or a big truck with a chain to pull up tree stumps.
I wonder what that would equate in a deadlift. Gotta be in the thousands. PS: one gorilla totally uprooted a live tree to get at the food source. However he was wearing a 3 ply shirt so he shouldnt get credit for it(lol).
------------------------------------
Think about it... a chimp is MUCH stronger than the avrage human, and they weigh around 150 lbs... an adult male gorrila weighs around 500 lbs.

Maybe they were thinking of something else and not a gorilla? I dont see how anyone that can do a search on google could fathom that information.

Chimps are like 3 times stronger then a man.
All animals rule us in strength.

Fascinating Facts
Silverback gorillas possess the strength of four to eight strong men. An adult male will communicate aggression or curiosity by standing upright and beating on its chest with its hands.
