internet security question
If you are running ANONYMIZER and the ANONYMIZER TOTAL SYSTEM SWEEPER, is this all that is needed to wash the computer of any trace of where you have been on the net--I know there are some DOS files that maintain records as well, but have not found a way to access these ( I read about it in a different post but it did not pertain to Windows XP so I couldn't perform the tasks)--so am I ok with this software or am I lulling myself into a false sense of security? any recommendations if I need additional software? thanks

Trust me bro, these programs do help with "leaving tracks", but there is no program out that which is fool proof. So don't put all your faith in a program there is always someone out there that can crack it. Just think about this, if it is advertised on the market, don't you think the FBI/DEA know how to crack them? The new Homeland Security laws, pretty much means that there is nothing on the Internet that is private!

yes it is the law that all programs have a back door available to law enforcement as protocol. A new hard drive is the only answer, I think there are programs available that will fry your hard drive on demand in an emergency.

Yes a bunch. But again, look for a program that formats your hard drive on a binary level, by "Zeroing out sectors".

hey man, ... every PC has a MAC address. thats a static number, specific to you. it doesnt change, and with that, feds can track everywhere you been. you could totally wipe out your system clean ... theres always a way. stay away from the kiddie porn

Spyder is exactly correct, every PC has a mac address, we lock down networks using this technique, and that is just one of the many ways feds, can track you!

No, not likely. You have to do some things on your own, I mean geezum computers can't do everything automatcially LOL! Just messin with ya bro. Formatting by writting zeros to your drive is usually a manfacturing utility. Western Digital has a utility in their "Lifeguard software". I am sure without a doubt there are some utilities out there that will do what we are talking about doing. I think Norton Utilities even does it, not sure because I don't believe in Norton products, I think they are a joke, but that is just my opinion! Good luck!

Sicilian , I was meaning would the computer lose the dos prompts to reinstall from a cd?

loose dos prompts? I have no clue what you are referring to. Are you installing windows XP? If so the CD is self booting. most versions of 98/ME and 2000 are all self booting.

okay I'm not a computer guru as you can see. How can a software self boot on an clean hard drive? Doesn't there have to be some sort of root directory or something for it to attach itself to , to install? A command of some sort?

No, that is handled by the bios which is installed on the motherboard if I am not mistaken...the bios tells the CPU to boot from the CD Rom Drive.

Yes, your bios does instruct where to look for boot devices. But the "dos" prompts I don't understand what he is talking about?
If you are installing a Windows product, for example, Windows XP/2000/98 or ME, then depending on the brand of computer you have, (you may have to go into your BIOS/CMOS and set the bootup devices to "look" at the CD as a boot device. Most computers come that way from the factory, unless it was changed by someone else like me!
Just simply pop the CD into the CD Drive, boot the system up, on some systems it may ask you to "press any key to boot from CD". Press "any" key to boot from CD. That's it. I am pretty sure Novell and linux are just about the same. Hope this helps amigo!Last edited by Sicilian30; 01-05-2005 at 01:05 PM.
